Wow. I don't really know where to begin with this book. Not only did it live up to my expectations, but it also surpassed them to infinity.

The plot was amazing, so beautiful and original. It also held some important life-lessons and it made us think to great extents about the effects that brainwashing and tyranny can bring. I can't wait to get my hands on the next books in this series. Here we have science fiction all wrapped around a mystery - a long voyage through the stars interrupted by murder and deceit. I was guessing until the end! Really loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves YA, complicated love stories, and of suspenseful science fiction. ...more

There were parts of this book I really enjoyed, and then other parts I didn't like so much. I have often heard that is really important to make the main protagonists likable, and that is where I struggled with this book. I really enjoyed Elder's point of view, but I struggled with Amy. For me she was so whiny and emotional. Granted, she has ever reason to be in this book, but it started to wear on my nerves. Dull. Dry plot and even dryer characters. Couldn't get past the first 115 pages. Not to mention that it's written in present tense, which is the first sign that I'm going to dislike a book. ...more
