I was honestly disappointed because on the surface it seems like a perfect book for me. However, I found the narrator a challenge to understand which continually distracted me from the story. The characters really did not hook me into their story.

When I started reading the story, I was under the impression that this was a book focused on books and how books possess the power to heal. It’s set in Paris, and the bookshop is a floating barge on the Seine. The book seller considers books medicine for people who are suffering. He asks buyers questions to assess their mood, likes, dislikes, and then fits them with a prescription along with a “dosage” for how to take/read the books he prescribes. Amazing concept!

I'm a little late to the party on this one... it's a journey of love and loss, the healing that can come from books, people, and places, and remembering that you only get one life and to make the most of it... if you read to breathe... read this to enjoy characters cut from the same cloth... get swept away... savor it... i tend to gobble books up in one sitting.. but this book deserves to be savored a few chapters at a time while sitting in, near, or on the water... ...more
