In a "Sixth Sense" sort of way, once you know the secret, you likely won't go back to re-read this book. Or if you do, it's to see just how masterfully the author wove this plot together. I did NOT see this ending coming.
This is one of the best books I've read this year. Oh yes, this deserves the title of Best of 2014 in Young Adult fiction that Goodreads has given it. We have a story with a narrator who has too many holes in her memory, with the hint that something awful happened. As you read ...more

The only reason this book earned a 3-star that put it into "liked it" instead of a 2-star "it was ok" was the portrayal of the rich and privileged Sinclair family. This book was on point in displaying the rich's live motto, as Harris Sinclair aka Granddad likes to say “Don’t take no for an answer”.

3. The writing
4. Living in Cadence's head all the time

Could have been a 4 star if it wasn't for that ending. Nonetheless, it was a enigmatic story that I plowed through in two days. For that alone I would recommend it.

The Sinclair family is a prominent family that spends its summers on a private island close to Martha's Vineyard. The Patriarch, Harris Sinclair, has three daughters and has built each daughter their own house on the island. The three daughter ...more

WASP-y existential angst and a twist I can't believe I didn't see coming from ten miles away. We're gonna chalk it up to sheer incredulity we're still using that twist and speak of it no more, okay?
