this book took me about 200 pages to "get into it". Once I got into it I read through it quite quickly as I really wanted to know what happened to the characters. That being said, I didn't particularly like the fact that the way the book jumped around in time eras. I think the book could have been easier to follow and nothing would have been taken away from the story had it been told in chronological order. I didn't dislike this book but I can't say that I really enjoyed it either.

3 Stars is one of those "hard for me to decide" type of books. I liked more than "it was ok", but it was hard for me to get into. The writing style is just different and, at times, somewhat distracting. I've books where the perspective is changed from chapter to chapter before and didn't find it hard to follow, but I find that it does keep me from really "connecting" with any of the characters. Set against the backdrop of Hitler's European WWII theater this book is about the life story of a young blind girl and hr closely knit family. Very vivid and descriptive this book draws you in with the story and is a page turner especially if you prefer a strong historical context with your reading.
