Senseless violence and an equation that violence and cruelty =s bravery. Do not go against the faction; do not break the rules. Hell, don't even question the rules. Do stupid mean life endangering acts and equate this to being brave because you didn't chicken out or you allowed someone to smash in your face or throw knives at you. Perhaps a fault of my own, It took awhile for me to shake the feeling of a hunger games knockoff. I really didn't enjoy this book. I think the author has been too ambitious. There is a lot of the story the could have been explored in more detail. I was left wanting a lot more than what I got. This first book could have easily been made into two separate books and been much more enjoyable. I never connected with much of the supporting characters. Divergent was the first book that I've ever read by this author. To be honest, I've actually never even done research on her at all... But this series was a best seller. However- I've read plenty of best sellers that I didn't care for. Obviously, it's all about your taste in books and so on and I love me some paranormal books but this type of utopian/dystopian or whatever you wanna call it is usually not up my alley BUT I enjoyed it! The ONLY reason that I awarded this book 4 stars instead o Divergent was the first book that I've ever read by this author. To be honest, I've actually never even done research on her at all... Obviously, it's all about your taste in books and so on and I love me some paranormal books but this type of utopian/dystopian or whatever you wanna call it is usually not up my alley BUT I enjoyed it! The ONLY reason that I awarded this book 4 stars instead of 5 was due to finding myself bored in parts of the story. It might've been because the book started off so strong and I literally couldn't tear my face away from my iPad- like THAT good! But then as I went on I found myself putting it down often. NOT because it wasn't a good book- I would just find other things to do that needed to be done. I guess.

I really really liked the faction idea in this book. Brilliant! Obviously, it's fiction but it's not like crazy out of this world this is so fake I can't even stand it fiction. Know what I mean? Probably not, but I do. I loved how the different factions had different beliefs, personalities, physical appearances, rules, and so on. It makes the story all the more interesting because the characters are so different. Then the Divergent's! Well, I'm not going to go into derail for the sake of potential readers and ruining the book for them but what a fantastic idea!

Anybody else root for Tris and Four as hard as I did? Granted, the book is YA, without a doubt, but I wanted the connection between the two characters soooo bad. I wanted him to kiss her so bad and get it over with! I knew they liked each other but because they are so similar I think they were unsure of how to show their affections.

Ugh! The deaths! Like seriously, HOW SAD. Now if the author actually read this review, which she may, I would go into thorough details about how upset I am with the deaths of two particular people in this story- BUT once again I don't wanna spoil it for anyone so I'll keep my mouth shut. Grrrrr! I didn't think it made the story suck or anything- it was just depressing. All stories can't have happily ever after endings or people wouldn't like to read. Things like the deaths and such put uniqueness into the story which is totally what I look for in a book. I can't freakin STAND reading knock offs.

So overall - buen trabajo Ms. Roth! I look forward to reading the next two books in the series. I'm actually a little mad at myself for waiting this long to read these books but at the same time I have over 400 books sitting on my kindle begging for my attention. Oh yeah, that's just my kindle- add on iBooks, kobo, Nook, Overdrive, and so on... Sooo manyyyy books. Like humanly not possible to read them all right? Wrong! I'll do it! ;) ...more
