Death as narrator is a unique and powerful way to tell this story. As a reader you know about individual character's' death before it occurs, which is off-putting but intense. The story is unbelievably sad, but must have occurred over and over during WWll. I "read" this on Audible, and the reader was superb.
Want to see the movie.

This book took me 4 days to read it was addictive emotional and gripping - it hooked me from the first page to the last - I fell in love with the film and decided to finally read it - the story it transfixed me - it was written in such a beautiful delicate manner you pictured yourself as death just standing and watching what was happening within the book.
