One of the treasures of my reading life. Stunning in its depth and its beautiful experimental form.

The Book Thief

With a book told from the point of view of Death, you get pretty much what you would expect and Death has no patience to make you wait for suspense, he tells it to you early, and he tells it to you straight. This way, we focus so much more on the events and the interactions between the characters because they are put in that slightly tainted viewfinder and are that much more precious. Sad as hell, worthwhile, if you can handle it.
