I was not motivated to read this book after watching the "Inkheart" movie because it really ruined the magic of the book. But as soon as I started reading it, I was wrapped up in the incredible writing of Funke. I quickly forget about my reservations and have been enjoying the twist in the story. Now Maggie and her family get trapped in the Inkheart world. I enjoy the expansion of the characters, especially Dustfinger who's performance in the movie was the only good thing about the movie. Finally, I finished this book. I enjoyed the beginning and the end, but everything that was in between has been so slow. And not just once I found that there was a lot of information I could not keep up with. A lot of new characters are introduced, and although they are listed at the beginning of the book, I couldn't just turn back to the beginning to figure out who was who. There was too much decription and not enough dialogue, too much emphasis on actions and not so much on the characters. On ...more

I did enjoy it but not as much as Inkheart. I think it Wasn't as absorbing as Inkheart; at times it felt more contrived, and the various sub plots and extra characters were only extra complications for me instead of adding to the story. Still a very good read though and I do recommend the whole trilogy. ...more
