I am re-reading the series, as I have it in paperback, but wanted to post a small review just to say that even having read this installment before, it's still a brilliant and entertaining story.

I would have posted one for book two but there is something wrong with the review page.

However, this episode reveals many secrets from the past and introduces Sirius Black and Professor Lupin - both great characters important to Harry's development.

This is both my favorite Harry Potter book and movie. I admit, I watched the movie first and the only reason I did that was because Gary Oldman plays Sirius Black and Alan Rickman plays Severus Snape. If it wasn't for either of these actors, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the movies or the books.

It's taken me years to get over my trauma of the Harry Potter craze! The lines of waiting customers were incredible on release day! I've never seen anything like it in my life. And I overheard too many spoilers that ruined reading them for me when they were released by eager customers wanting to share what they've read with someone. I eventually watched the movies with my husband, who is another Harry Potter nutter.

However, most of my children are currently at an age where they're interested in these types of books, so several weeks ago, I began reading them out loud at bedtime. This has always been a series that I'd like to get around to reading. At last! We've finished my favorite one.

I'm impressed with the people who made the movies. They kept extraordinarily close to the books for each one so far. There, of course, are a few details that were eliminated or changed, but the heart of the story has been translated superbly to screen. However, I always enjoy reading the books to get those extra details that don't make it.

I loved the suspense J.K.Rowling created in the Prisoner of Azkaban. This book was much darker than the previous two, delving a bit into the mental state of an escaped murderer hunting an innocent boy. With each turn of the page, my kids (who have not seen the movies - or remember seeing them) were at the edge of their seats waiting to find out if Sirius Black was around the next corner. They walked along in Harry's shoes as he discovered each clue mostly from overheard conversations. I couldn't wait for them to discover the truth at the end.

And, of course, I love the werewolf scene, too.

This was a fun book to read to my kids. Each night, they begged me to read one more chapter, one more page. Sometimes I would oblige them because, I'll be honest, I had difficulty putting this one down, even though I already knew what was around that next corner! Wow!! I can’t believe how masterfully this book is written. J.K. Rowling is a genius with tying details and important facts together. I fell in love with Sirius all over again. What a perfectly well rounded character. Can’t wait for book four. March 2019

5 stars as usual. I’m pretty sure this is my 9th or 10th time reading the series from start to finish, and it’s just as good every time! This is my hard copy from 7th grade, and it makes me so happy to hold in my hands!
