Shelves: mystery-crime, modern

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this. I solved the mystery pretty early on, but I liked the way it was revealed piece by piece and out of chronological order. Excellent use of unreliable narrators. Mostly, though, this book confirms for me my reasons for never ever drinking alcohol. I mean, seriously. Nothing but trouble comes of it.

Paula Hawkins begins the story slowly like a train leaving the station, but the momentum increases as the story progresses; until the reader completes the story and reaches the home station. The story contains many twists and turns, and Hawkins does an incredible job of hiding the killer and the reason. I listened to the audiobook version and was enthralled with the reading. The story alternates between the many characters, but centers on Rachel, the drunk. The reader's feelings toward Rachel cl ...more

I despair over the fact that this is one the those "must reads" like Gone Girl and 50 Shades of Grey because, like Gone Girl and 50 Shades of Grey it is a piece of complete and utter shite. The style is terrible, the main characters are completely unlikeable and the language usage is juvenile.

I had only read 30 pages when I found myself thinking "no wonder you got dumper you stupid, pathetic wimp". I read 20 more pages and knew that like the other two this was unreadable.

Not Gone Girl, thank God.

I figured it out before I wanted to, but it didn't make me hate the wingl wrong person. You'll get used to the back after forth timeline. Already knew it was Emily Blunt, but she's who I would have pictured anyway. Great casting. ...more
