Many, many thanks to Karen for creating this Bingo Challenge in the summer of 2014. We enjoyed playing so much! It's the perfect summer challenge with something for everyone. Remember: your goal can be as simple as a single "Bingo!" or as complex as going for the "Blackout!"

Posted below, you'll find rules and boards to play along. Also, there's a 10 point bonus for every bingo you complete. (Thanks, Kassandra!)

Mickey | 25 comments Kiwi wrote: "@Gareth, how was Ancillary Justice? I've added it and removed it from my TBR a couple of times now..."

I agree with Kiwi. It's definitely worth a read. The world takes a little getting used to, but once you do it's a really entertaining read with a very interesting complex world, and it manages to tackle some serious themes ( stuff like colonialism/"the self") without being preachy. I really enjoyed it.

Gareth Townsend | 166 comments That's a second Bingo. A row this time, these revision breaks are perfect for listening to audiobooks and I've just read a graphic novel for the first time.

I should probably spend the evening doing something productive but instead edited the original bingo card to look like this, with the covers of the books I've read/listened to:

description

message 42: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments For the ignorant, what is a graphic novel?

message 43: by Gareth (new)

Gareth Townsend | 166 comments It's pretty much a really long detailed comic. The one I read (Fullmetal Alchemist (3-in-1 Edition), Vol. 1) was over 500 pages long. Like I said i've never really read one before but I really enjoyed it, it was easy to read with a good story. I'll certainly be reading more

If you're doing manga for your graphic novel, I highly recommend Nana, Vol. 1. I read the whole series and enjoyed them very much. Basically, it's about two young women with the same name who are going to the big city to change their lives/grow up. Lots of romance and adventure as one of them pursues a career as a muscician.

I also liked Vampire Knight, Vol. 1 if you're in the mood for a bit of fantasy. Or Black Butler, Vol. 1 for dark humor.

Although, I have heard great things about Fullmetal Alchemist Kanzenban 01 which Gareth recommended. It has been on my own list for awhile.
