Just read this a second time for book club (first time was in 2006 when it was released). Though I'd forgotten most of the details of the book, I found it equally enjoyable the second time around -- solid writing, good story-telling, and interesting details and research into what train circuses were like. If you're an animal lover, some of the brutality is hard to take, but it's still worth the read. ...more

I really enjoyed the descriptions of the circus from a historical perspective. I found the book fascinating and had a hard time putting it down! Unfortunately, I have been told that they did not do well in making the movie, which is disappointing, as I think it would translate well.
