Many of us make reading plans each month, which we find we are unable to complete within the timeframe. Then, the unfinished books get re-shelved on the tbr or linger at the bottom of our "currently reading" shelf forever, taunting us like Marley's ghost. This is your chance to Set 'em up and Knock 'em down!

Mission: Choose nine books you planned to read THIS YEAR, which you were unable to accomplish. Then, Bust 'em, Dr. Venkman! (I know I'm mixing my metaphors all over the place.) :D

Dates: October 1 - December 31, 2014

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 221 comments Wonderful idea. And here are my nine!

Srividya is haunted by...

1. The Hero of Ages (planned for June)
2.To Kill a Mockingbird (planned for June)
3. Gardens of the Moon (planned for July)
4. The Museum of Innocence (planned for September)
5. Schindler's List (planned for August)
6. Fall of Giants
7.The Goldfinch (planned for August -September)
8. Divergent (Planned for July)
9. Anna Karenina (planned for May)

ETA: War and Peace (planned for this year, started in July and still stuck on the same page)- I had marked this as to be finished this year but I honestly won't be able to get to it with all the stuff going on in real life. So I have postponed it to 2015. Hopefully 2015 will be the year when I tame this tome!

Wow! These are some great lists. The books we DIDNT get to all look pretty fabulous. No wonder they are haunting us!

message 19: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Amber is Haunted by and need to get back to reading:
1.My Soul Immortal-Started the Read for Review ebook a few months back but placed it on hold because other reads got in the way. Hope to finish it soon. (on page 13 of 310).
2.The Haunting of Hill House-Got recommended to read this for All Hallow's Read so will finally get it at the library and read it. Tried reading it two years ago but other reads got in the way.
3.Salvation-Got this ebook read for review request recently and plan to read it soon as it is 914 pages long.
4.Monsters of Men-I read the first two books earlier this year and enjoyed them. I hope to read this final one sometime in the future to finish the trilogy.
5.The Calling-Have been trying to read this ebook read for review request for a while but the text size is too small that I have been unable to get back to reading it.
6.The Sudarshana-Will be finishing this one too. This is book 4 of the YA ebook series and I just got this one and book 5 to go before I finish.
7.What the Night Knows-I would like to read this in the future too.
8.And Then There Were None-this would be my first ever Agatha Christie novel so will check it out in the future.
9.Northanger Abbey-Have had this one on my tbr list for a while so need to check it out. It's an ebook on my tablet.

Amber-
I'm surprised that you can't change the type size for The Calling since it's an ebook. That sounds frustrating.

And Then There Were None is not my favorite Christie. In fact, it's the first one I read. I was so under-impressed that I put off reading any others for a long time. Which was a shame because she's quite wonderful. I look forward to seeing what you think of it.

Northanger Abbey is a treat! But VERY different from other Austens. Enjoy it for its Gothic Goofiness and Austen's discussion on the value of novels. And, Mr. Tilney, of course!

message 21: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Yeah it was like size 10 or something so I might not be able to read it anymore cuz of it. and I'll let you know what I think of And then there were none when I get to it with Northanger abbey Renee.

message 22: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments I updated my list. Still don't have 9, but even with 4 I'm already struggling to read them until the end of December. I'm on The Sacrifice now, though. There's still some hope :)

I can give you some of mine, Alessandra! :D My list of haunting titles keeps growing. Finally finished Moving the Mountain but now Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee remains uncompleted. :(

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments I'd love to help you out, Renee, but I'm already struggling with four. You can do it, though! I believe in you! :D

I'm not making much headway with my "Haunted" list. How's everyone else doing?

message 26: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments I'm in the same boat as you Renee - not much progress at all. I'm still getting distracted by other books. This may have to become a 2015 challenge for me I'm afraid!

message 27: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 221 comments I haven't even begun on this challenge!! Sigh I am sure it will go into 2015 before I do!

Kassandra - I am also facing the same problem. I get distracted by other reads and forget these ones!

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Hmmm. That's not a bad idea, Sandy.
But, I'm torn between making a break with our "ghosts" and doing an old year cleanup mini. What do others think? Please share your thoughts. Maybe someone has a clever idea for a New Year/ Old Books mini-challenge???

message 29: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I'm writing as I'm thinking, so bear with me. :) How about the last two weeks of Dec. read as many old books from our 2014 to-read list or books that did not get read from our many challenges and two weeks into Jan. we start with our brand new 2015 list. Maybe make this a read-a-thon or point challenge. Like (Make New Friends, But Read The Old) something like that. Or maybe something with an "Auld Lang Syne" challenge or read-a-thon the last week of Dec. "Should Old Aquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon..." Renee, maybe using books from only from our past challenges that have not been read or from our monthly read lists.

You'll think of something grand!!! :D

I think I'm gonna do a name change and just call this "HAUNTED BY THE UNREAD" it's a small thing but I want "The Road Not Taken" for something else. Hope that won't be confusing for anyone.

Sandy, My *Haunted List* is literally several piles stacked next to my bed and could challenge myself to a 2015 read of all of my physical books and e-books from 2014. This would keep me busy all next year without joining in on any other challenge. This pile needs to be read down, I'm already climbing over it to get into bed, what will this stack look like after Renee's planned challenges in 2015? Oh well, here I go down the rabbit hole.... :D

message 33: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
We're starting off the year with three that lend themselves to dwindling the tbr, I think. Well, maybe. It's always a trade-off. I use up some but go in search of others. Lol. Hopefully, two books forward and only one book back. 8-)

message 34: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Renee, I think I can live with your motto *two books forward and only one book back. We'll see if my husband can. :D

How has everyone done with this mini-challenge?

I suspect 9 was too ambitious a number. Perhaps there's a reason certain books get pushed to the bottom of the pile. Personally, I'll probably only finish 2 of the 9 I listed back in October. Which means that 7 will be clanking around me like Jacob Marley's chains. Yikes!

Ah, well. That's why I have a "taking a break" shelf. So I can store the little beasts until I'm ready to face them agaIn. :P

message 37: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments I'm with you Renee - 2 of the 9 have been completed and I likely won't get to the rest this month. I have moved them to my own thread for a haunted by 2014 ghosts view...and they have been joined by a few others as well :)

message 38: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I think I completed one. Oh well, I blame it on The Vowel Challenge. :)

I'd definitely love to do something like this for next year. Like a 'Books I Never Got Round To In 2014' Challenge!
