What Members Thought
Not my favorite Dickens. This one is very dark and cynical. It lacks the hopeful feel that usually balances those aspects of his other novels.
Without giving any spoilers away, Great Expectations revolves around a poor boy (Pip) who dreams about becoming a gentleman, only to have his dreams realised in the most obscure circumstances, but where his expectations turn out not as he expected.

It's unfortunate that this was only my second Dickens book because it's turned me right off him. The characters are just awful, it drags on and the story just doesn't cut it. Awful book.
