Read this again after seeing the recent movie and it was wonderful. I was surprised how much I had forgotten. It’s only been about 60 years. 😊

Longer review to follow (maybe...there are eight million other reviews for this, it's possible I'll forget...)

The gist: I've been familiar with this story forever. I've seen the Winona Ryder adaptation probably a dozen times, and I was obsessed with the Great Illustrated Classics version as a kid. But this is my first adult readthrough of the whole, unabridged story. While I didn't love it *quite* as much as my younger self did, I did still love it quite a bit. It does get very preachy at times

This book is so sugary and spicey I wanted to throw up. It does not translate well from childhood into adulthood. But it is oh so sweet.
