This was so much better than I expected. My book choice for 1830s. Poor Oliver had such a horrible life from being orphaned and beaten and starved to being sold to a coffin maker as an apprentice and then sold again to those who wished him harm. No one trusted him or wanted him and believed he should be dead. He finally runs away and ends up in a band thieves who take him in. When he realizes what they do, he’s horrified as despite the hard life he’s had, he believes in the good of the world. Re ...more

It took quite a while to listen to the audible version but I loved the characters, the mood Dickens creates and the complex but beautiful connections of the relationships between the characters. A long but very satisfying story.
