What Members Thought

Striking cover. Fanciful concepts. Worth savouring.

“Run away with me toward the glimmering, mad horizon. Dance through this eternal green orchard, where ten thousand worlds hang ripe and red for the plucking; wander with me between the trees, tending them, clearing away the weeds, letting in the air. Opening the Doors.”
A wonderful story. From the very first paragraph I strongly suspected I was heading for a 5 star read.

5 stars!
‘Doors, he told her, are change, and change is a dangerous necessity. Doors are revolutions and upheavals, uncertainties and mysteries, axis points around which entire worlds can be turned. They are the beginning and endings of every true story, the passages between that lead to adventures and madness and - here he smiled - even love’
I absolutely loved this!

This book was most definitely a unique book and quite good for an author's debut novel. The first pages of the book piqued my interest right away and I was hooked on The Ten Thousand Doors of January. Since I rarely read the blurbs, I had no idea that January is the MC of the book and not a month.
January Scaller is only 7 years old as the story begins and we learn of her plight. Her father, employed by one Mr. Locke, is gone on business most of the time. Mr. Locke is like her guardian, even a fa ...more

3 stars. Beautiful writing and an intriguing plot. Dull execution. This had potential to be at least a four star read but the beginning half was really difficult to get into and I also was not a fan of January. She never did grow on me and I found some of the other characters to be way more interesting than her. I do feel as if I will like this author’s other book a lot more because like I said her writing is fantastic. This one just didn’t land for me unfortunately.

It's hard to describe this book without ruining the magic. January was raised by her guardian, Mr Locke in a mansion filled with treasure. Her father travels the world to bring these treasures back. But when she finds a door that turns into a portal to another world, everything she knows about her world changes.
I absolutely loved this book! It was full of wonder and adventure, magical worlds, and plenty of suspense. I plan on recommending this to everyone! ...more
