I believe I have frequently started off my review of books like this by saying that I 100% understand that I am not the demographic that this book and series was written for. I am always interested in checking out books I see getting a lot of attention on Goodreads, but I know that in some cases I may run into some things that just are not for me but are not an overall criticism of the book. As you read this review, keep that in mind. If you think you are like me, you might feel the same. If nor I believe I have frequently started off my review of books like this by saying that I 100% understand that I am not the demographic that this book and series was written for. I am always interested in checking out books I see getting a lot of attention on Goodreads, but I know that in some cases I may run into some things that just are not for me but are not an overall criticism of the book. As you read this review, keep that in mind. If you think you are like me, you might feel the same. If normally books in this genre appeal to you, you should probably take it all with a grain of salt.

THE GOOD

I have enjoyed the journey in this fantasy faerie world. The magic, the monsters, the conflict – all of it very interesting. Maas did a very good job with her world-building and I enjoyed being in it a bit more with each book. Sure, sometimes a turn of events seemed a bit cheesy or convenient, but it was all in the name of entertainment!

THE BAD

Is it just me, or is there a “I am writing a trilogy and the first two books were big, but a manageable size, so I have to make the final book in the trilogy HUGE” syndrome? Compared to the other two, I thought there were large sections of this book that dragged on and did not seem to advance the plot with their over-analytical length. A 100-page meeting could have been summed up in a 20-page chapter. I think the content was all necessary, it just kept losing me to repetitive boredom. If this book had been edited a lot more, it would have been a great improvement.

THE SEXY

Now, this is the one that I think the normal target audience looks for in these books, but was lost on me. At least once every 50 to 100 pages there is a pretty intense and graphic sex scene. Lots of groping and dirty talk – stuff to stimulate the readers libido, but not much to add to the plot or the story. If they had cut these out, the only thing that would have been lost would be the sex scene itself. Some may argue that the passion between the characters would be lost, but I think that was pretty obvious without those parts.

Now, to be clear, I am not saying it is bad they are in there or that they should be removed. I fully understand the entertainment value for those who are into some hot sexy-time in the books they read. I just wanted to point out that I didn’t feel it added much and, if you are a reader like me, you may have the same experience.

THE SUMMARY

• A fun and creative fantasy world with lots of interesting characters, magic, and monsters
• Drags on a bit in several places. Could have been much shorter
• If you like in-depth descriptions of your favorite characters getting it on, step right up!

The final installment in the trilogy of Feyre and Rhys and saving the seven courts from the danger of Hybern and I am so torn.

I really enjoyed this series that it was never really up there at the top with Throne of Glass, I really did try to not compare them but it is hard.

But they are completely different stories and they really do not have anything in common but still. IMO this book was at least 100 pages shorter as it times it once dragged too much for my liking.

Had a few issues but overall it was BETTER than I was expecting it to be! *hype*

I had so many surprises (the good type) coming from the characters - especially Tamlin who was my least favorite guy in the whole universe not long ago. I loved this volume so much thanks to their evolution and amazingness. The plot was not something out of ordinary and I wasn't impressed with where it was leading; It was quite foreseeable and there have been a few times when I told myself: "Oh, wow, completely seen Had a few issues but overall it was BETTER than I was expecting it to be! *hype*

The romantic parts between the Feyre and Rhys were, unfortunately, ew. Not all of them, but the majority. They decided to get comfy in the worst moments and places. Still like them, though.
Mor was the best, like always. Liked how we got to know her better in this one, to learn about her past and feelings. Really happy with what was revealed and I wonder if the author already has plans for her in the next volume.
Az and Cassian are my favorite male characters where Nesta and Elain are my favorite females. I like the spice they give to the story and I am super happy that they are playing such a big role in this one.
Amren deserves all the good things in the fairy world and I hope she will get them soon.
Lucien is cool and so is his brother, Eris. I was not expecting to like Eris - I know he is a son of a ... but I have a feeling there is more to his story that we were left to know. I am curious to find out if his actions will get to be explained?
Tamlin made me cry when (view spoiler). He was an evil ~~person~~ fairy before but I hope he will get his happily ever after in the end.
King of Hybern reminded me of Lich King - for all the World of Warcraft players/fans out there. Am I the only one who saw this? And his army was formed out of death knights. LOL

In the end, I loved this story! I was expecting it to be over with ACOWAR - a trilogy with a satisfactory ending. I was really confused when I found out there are going to be more books but now, when I had to say ''goodbye'' to everyone, I am pretty happy it is not how it ends. ...more

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas is the 3rd book in A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Feyre works undercover to gather information and allies against the invading Hybern King. Another superb instalment in the series. There is so much happening in this book making it difficult to keep up with all the various characters but Feyre and Rhysand make a wonderful ruling couple. Fast paced, very emotional and with plenty of carnage make it a very entertaining read.

Loved this book and series! 4 1/2 stars. Took 1/2 star off for the length, which got to me at points. But I truly enjoyed this as much as any 5⭐️ rating.
