What Members Thought

This book is basically what it’s like to slowly rot away in a capitalist society.
The book delivered what it was trying to say, but I still felt that it was too long even though it’s soo short. It felt unedited, and I’ve come to know that it was indeed unedited since the author did not want it to be published.
Anyway, I finished it feeling repulsed and scared, which is good because I believe that’s what the author would have wanted us to experience. It is so upsetting how someone can truly crinkle ...more

This book actually made me very angry, especially at the family. I understand that looking after a family member turned beetle would, naturally, be hard, but the way the family treated Gregor was horrible. But overall the book was very good and had many moral lessons within it. I definitely recommend.

Well, that was strange. I liked it, there's a lot to puzzle over with Gregor's bugification. While reading this my interpretations ranged from "Geeze, being a working adult is hard enough" to shrinking in value to his family to the insignificance of a worker in the scheme of professional life. Wedged somewhere in there is something about alienation and isolation. There's a lot of loss and feeling trapped, and I understand The Metamorphosis reflects Kafka's personal life.

this was a reread for me. i chose to do my final paper for ENGL 215 on queer theory in The Metamorphosis so that is why i read it again. this novella is good when you look deeper into theories and Kafka’s own personal life but on its own i can see how it can be a little boring. so i gave it 3 stars because it’s a good read but not a favorite of mine
