I have to say I was beyond excited when I received Allegiant, the final installment in the Divergent trilogy. But, I'm sorry to say that I'm slightly disappointed with it. To me Roth is a great author. The trilogy had a great story-line, characters, relationship etc. But, this all kind of disappeared in this book. In my opinion, her writing style/skill isn't that great, and I feel that showed very prominently in this book. Mor I give Allegiant 3/5 stars

I have to say I was beyond excited when I received Allegiant, the final installment in the Divergent trilogy. But, I'm sorry to say that I'm slightly disappointed with it. To me Roth is a great author. The trilogy had a great story-line, characters, relationship etc. But, this all kind of disappeared in this book. In my opinion, her writing style/skill isn't that great, and I feel that showed very prominently in this book. More so than the others.

Surprisingly, it was actually the plot of Allegiant that was its main downfall. The plot was all over the place and had little to no organization. Throughout the book, nothing was really made clear. It was just thrown in, event after event. Punch after punch. I don't think a book really needs that. Allegiant had a lot of room to develop more. Roth introduced the new concept of genetically pure and damaged along with many others when, there was still room for developing past themes that were still contributing to the novel. By the end nothing seemed really resolute or resolved and there was just a basic lack of explanation.

Not only that but, the character development was also weak. Lets start off with the main character, Tris. She just seemed very unrealistic in Allegiant. Going back to the first two books, she made mistakes, which made her seem so human. It made her very relatable. For the majority of the book she was never wrong. She automatically became this strong, smart, and selfless person; it went to such a ridiculous extent. With this she became a very condescending character and it made her extremely unlikeable.

As for Four, he seemed to lose his strength. I understand that he's not perfect and that's not what I want. But, in the first two books he was so strong in facing his issues. This Four seems...different...shattered. He lost all his defining traits in this book. He becomes, irrational, weak, and uncertain. I wont go deeper into his character changes though, because I don't want to spoil anything.

Their relationship also wasn't something I could appreciate, as it seemed very contrived. They fought over the smallest things and made up in ways that made no sense. It became very irritating.

As an overall I think the book lacked, plot, character, and relationship development. It was repetitive and disappointing. I may be being a little nice in my rating of 3 stars. I think its probably the sentimental value this trilogy holds for me that keeps me from giving it a lower rating. In truth I would only recommend this to die-hard fans of Divergent or people who just want to finish the trilogy.

Roth is a wonderful prodigy writer, especially considering the fact she is so young. I can see her skills with word usage have improved dramatically in the final installment of the trilogy. I can even go so far to say she is using bigger words.

However, the feeling you get while reading/writing does not rely on the words used. There is a certain predictability in these books, and throughout the first three quarters I felt I was reading what was being explained to the characters but what I already knew. Of course Tris is the normal one, of course everyone genetically damaged is close-minded, and of course you cannot judge a person's decisions based on if they are genetically damaged or not. These characters are real because they are naive. I suppose I was just hoping for something a little more unsuspecting or exciting, but I also suppose real life is not like that. In the beginning, with all the emotions flying around, I felt she spelling some of them out.

The "riveting dual perspective" is different and makes me realize how alike Tris and Tobias are despite their apparent disagreements. I was halfway through a chapter I thought Tris was speaking when I realized it was Tobias.

Another thing: When I was first reading Divergent, I thought Tobias was not going to be Divergent. (You have no reason to believe me except to trust my judgment.) I thought it would be stupid for them to have this in common; too predictable. Thanks for the curve ball, Ms. Roth. :)

As soon as I looked at some of the reviews for this book, even without the spoilers, I knew Tris was going to die in the end. They talked about a character death and Roth mentioned she was not going to kill off Tobias, so I figured process of elimination.

But I read this book anyway without bothering to skip to the ending. Why? It was because I wanted to do it the old fashioned way; this series is worth so much I think it was the least I could do.

Although the first three quarters almost disappointed me, we certainly got a shocker after that. Things start picking up: The romance, the surprises, the sadness, and death. I could feel myself trying to read to the tempo of the rhythm of this book. It is amazing to feel the rhythm of a novel.

I never thought I could say something so cruel, but thanks for murdering Tris, Ms. Roth. I can tell it was not that you wanted us readers to feel the horror of your main character's death. It just had to happen. Like Tobias said, "....A fire that burns that bright is not meant to last."

Wise words, Roth! *Cheer, cheer.* "Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life." Those words speak to me and describe my life. I love how she [Roth] can make something relate to her characters but also have it be personal to her readers. Of course not everyone has the opportunity to risk their lives for someone they love, and it is okay if you do not take it. But everyone has the choice of whether to wake up in the morning and face the day, or to hide underneath the covers. I felt like every big message theme is spread out in this novel--we all wear facade semblances, do not judge someone because they are ignorant, we all fit into different sectors but at the same time cannot be predictable, accept people for who they are, love is a decision, not what you feel like doing, and there is nothing better than to do something for someone you love. You can either take this and say, 'Typical,' or you can take this and say, 'Beautiful.'

well, i didn't like it at first it was soooo different from the first two so i didn't connect with it straight away.
it got frustrated with Tris and tobias and omg Uriah! but i guess at least it made me feel something right? well still it was very well written and well thought through. it was near the end where i was like
"there is the tris i know" and "that is the tobias i love!" and i was really sad near the end but it was a good ending even though i'm sorta like whyyyyyyyy?!

but i am satisfied ...more
