Drowned Country is very different from Silver in the Woods but no less strange and beautiful. It is, held within the fairytale, a story of loneliness and loving, of wanting and aching and longing. Silver in the Woods was funnily Tobias' story, despite the name, while Drowned Country is very much Henry's.

We have more of Henry Silver in this sequel which was as much fun as having Tobias Finch as a main character. And I really liked Silver's mother, Adele, and Maude.
I wonder if there will be more sequels to this series, one with Maude's POV perhaps? ...more

I liked this book a lot less than the previous one. I think it was because the few elements I fell in love with were either destroyed, or didn't appear as much in this book:
1. The wood, the way Tobias describes it as he walks through it, that made me feel like I was there. Deep, dark, damp, delicious. This time we had a few descriptions, but not enough. I fell in love with the wood, with living deep inside it, hidden away with only a cat companion. And none of that atmosphere was retained.
