I've enjoyed Ann Leckie's other novels, but found her fantasy debut to be less accessible.

No doubt, it's unique. If you want something creatively written outside the box, you'll find it here. You do get used to the 2nd person narrative, especially after switching with 1st person to give the voice some context. But the story moves at literally a glacial pace, taking the reader through the eons from the Cambrian Era to the Ice Age and beyond. The god The Strength and Patience of the Hill is aptly

Dang, this book ended far differently than I thought it would. The first half took me quite a while to listen to. It felt rather slow. I didn't understand who the narrator was. But once it clicked, around the midway point, I could not stop listening.

I really wish there was a The Raven Tower 2: The Shattering. I bet it'd be great!

There was a lot I enjoyed about this book. The narrator, the slow build-up (in retrospect), Eolo as the main character, how the two plots ended up making sense together

First time I've ever read a book narrated from a god's perspective. This god thinks slowly, but deeply, and grinds very finely.

The god system of this world reminds me of Terry Pratchett's SMALL GODS; and one could imagine that, fast-forward some hundreds of years, these gods would become the corporatized faith entities a la Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence. The history of this world, the developing humans from god's eye view, is very interesting, especially since the gods of this world aren't omn

I wanted to like this book, but between the tiring second person, narration, the bland unknowable characters, and the slooooow plot, I just didn’t. I stuck with it assuming it would go somewhere interesting, and I think it started to, but then the book was over. I‘ve read the first two in her ancillary series, but this one wasn’t nearly as gripping. I could sort of see what she was going for, but it didn’t come together for me.

This book is very strange, and I liked it. It felt very slow-moving, especially the first half, but full of observations and nature and delicate writing that kept me hooked; then the flash-bang went off and the action went into overdrive, which was also delightful.

The reason for the perspective was kind of cool, but I kept trying and failing to be invested in the people.
