What Members Thought

A solid Christie outing that I enjoyed on my second reading. The clues felt a bit obvious this time, but I tend to think that is more of a factor of having read so many Christie books previously, as well as knowing who the killer was at the beginning. In my first reading, I almost never know who the killer is. Christie also presents thought provoking themes about morality, justice, and the dangers of loving things above people. Definitely in the top tier of mystery novels.

This was a masterpiece. Aside from “The Hallowe’en Party” and the “Witness for Prosecution” play, I have made an attempt to read all of Agatha Christie’s work in chronological order. She is my favorite novelist and there is not a more telling example of her genius than right here. This may be my second favorite Christie novel, right behind “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd”. Her signature humor and depravity are in full force here, and this really is the perfect detective novel.

This was a fun read even though I knew who the culprit was right away. I'm not sure how I knew, maybe I read too many reviews before hand and got a hint that stuck with me. In any case, I wouldn't say that ruined it for me. I still enjoyed the process.
