A hugely enjoyable book, nerdy to the extreme, and one that will leave you with an undying appreciation of both the precariousness of space travel, and the awesomeness of potatoes!

The only thing that put me off slightly was the first-person voice: not that of Mark Watney's character (who seems like a great guy to go into space with), but the manner by which it is supposed to be recorded. I expected some tedium-filled introspective "the nature of man" piece of philosophy. What I got was a great combination of adventure and survival story told against the backdrop of actual science, NASA-inspired astronauttery (if that isn't a word, it should be), and just a touch of science fiction.
