Sometimes, some books just don't lend themselves to an analytical, opinionated review. If you are looking to find a little magic in life read this book! Erin Morgenstern identifies herself as a multimedia artist and describes all her work as "fairy tales in one way or another". She is able to paint beautiful visual pictures with her words. I love this book. ...more

Listened to the book on Audible. So first would just say I’m conflicted on the reader. At first I thought the voice was perfect for a Victorian era book about a mysterious circus. But I did get annoyed that so many of the voices (including young women and children), came out as hoarse old men.

I read the book because of recommendations from friends and it’s appearance on a few lists of books with excellent writing. It really was quite good in that regard, though not as I’d expected. While I imag

Very well written; interesting tension between the main characters who are caught in an impossible, magical trap. Would have preferred more character development and few characters, get rid of the bouncing back and forth between time periods, also a better resolution to the lovers' quandry.
