This is such a devastating story not only of the horrors of slavery, but moreso of the lasting ripple effects of the aftermath of what such evil can do to someone, whether to their body or their spirit, the family and the soul, no matter which side you were on: master or slave. In the end, all are slaves to the vices one way or another, and the consequences are beyond measure.

1 star DNF. I couldn't continue with this book. The narrative structure was frustrating and I didn't connect well with the audio narration. I may come back to this someday, but I think I will try another Morrison instead. Review to come.
