i love books with diverse rep, and this one is amazing. I read it twice and I loved it as much the second time as I did on the first time! I love PErcy, who he is despite of whom his father wanted to mold him into; I love his paramour and that he is a black man with epilepsy as it also brings awareness about subjects such as race and chronic illness; and I love the sister (she has her own book) as s ...more

This was a fun and delightful read! Henry “Monty” Montague, the protagonist, could best be described as a witty rascal. He sets off on his European tour with his best friend (and his secret love), Percy, and his sister, Felicity. This book is the story of their adventurous European Tour that turned out to be nothing at all like they expected!

This book was a complete emotional roller coaster. From the frat boy vibe I got at the beginning to the cinnamon roll we discover along the way, Monty really kept me on my toes. The adventure itself was full of twists and turns and held my interest all the way through. It was a perfect way for me to start a readathon, because all I wanted to do after was keep reading!

I'm gonna start with Monty. He is a complete ass, but the best thing that doesn't seem to happen nearly enough is that his friends This book was a complete emotional roller coaster. The adventure itself was full of twists and turns and held my interest all the way through. It was a perfect way for me to start a readathon, because all I wanted to do after was keep reading!

I'm gonna start with Monty. He is a complete ass, but the best thing that doesn't seem to happen nearly enough is that his friends call him out on it 100%. But he still annoyed me to the ends of the earth because he's a egotistical maniac and drama queen and I just don't have patience for that. Percy and Felicity saved much of that for me because they were equally as strange and annoying at times, so putting the three of them together ended up being probably the most interesting and ultimately best group I could have imagined them being. Literally a bunch of confused people who have no idea how to properly communicate with each other, but all of them precious cinnamon rolls who need to be protected. Monty being the largest cinnamon roll and by the end I have decided that he needs to be kept safe. Percy, while much less of an ass, is still precious and I love his innocence and sense of devotion. He also needs all of the protection, though maybe not for the reason that Monty thinks, but more to keep Monty safe as well...I need more about these two!! Felicity is one of my favorite female characters! She's so blunt and anti-being social and I love them all, she could probably do more damage than the others together.

This book also approaches several issues that I think are super important and really not talked about as much in literature as the miracles are, especially young adult. It deals with disability, PTSD, emotional trauma, bisexuality and race as aversions in the time period. I think that this book approaches them in a way that's real and doesn't explicitly say several things but implies enough. For instance, the PTSD is shown, but never actually stated.

All in all, this book is so much fun. There's wit, traveling, forbidden romance, and we must expect the unexpected when it comes to Monty and his crew. I highly recommend this book and really loved it. While he might get annoying, put up with Monty (just as his friends do) because this entire story is completely worth it from beginning to end! 4.5 out of 5 from me ...more

This is one of the best books I have read in years! Probably the best novel of this year. It’s funny, it has adventure, it has romance and trouble!

I picked the book up thinking it would be a fluffy 18th century romance, but instead I get an epic adventure with badass women, alchemy, and a main character you can’t help but love-hating. I can’t wait to share this with others!

I️ liked the book but didn’t love it. I️ thought it began a little slow, but I️ guess now it was building up. I️ didn’t like Felicity at first but ended up enjoying her character. I️ enjoyed the aspect of travel in the novel. I️ enjoyed the growing relationship between Monty and Percy. And I did like the ending. I️ won’t spoil it for you. Read it 😋

I don’t know why it took me so long to read this book, it’s exactly the kind of fun, adventure novel I enjoy, and the strong LGBT representation is a wonderful bonus. The representation doesn’t stop there, Monty’s best friend and love interest is also a person of colour, and one of the main characters lives with a disability (it’s a plot point, so I won’t say who, or what condition they have).
