Totally absorbing book about the 1920s Osage county murders that gave birth to the FBI.
I read about those murders in a book about history of the FBI, but didn’t give it much credit.
David Grann in his unique way describes the actual acts of these crimes along with a cast of characters that can be found in the best of western genres and early 20th century detective novels... yet every word is true.

It's disturbing to me that such an in depth murder conspiracy could have occurred & that until the Now Read This PBS book club chose this as its second selection, I had never heard of the Osage people and the Reign of Terror against them. Also, of note is Congress passing laws to control the Osages' millions of dollars from oil rights. Had they not instilled their clearly racist guardian laws in order to swindle these people, the murder of these people would not have been as lucrative as it was.

This is a really important story that needs telling, but the content itself wasn't very well organized. I took pages of notes trying to keep everything straight and I think the author definitely could've helped the reader more in that regard. Still, it as a worthwhile read and delivers a great lesson about critically questioning the history you were taught as a child.
