Completely Amazing. This was such an absurd read that it leaves the reader breathless. It starts with the sentence Maman died today. The first impression is what is this person feeling. You find out he is feeling nothing at all. You the reader feel sadness over a death. Monsieur Meursaulut is detach from his experiences. He attends the vigil and funeral the nursing home provides for his mother. Comes home and believes his life has not changed.

For years I've had this classic sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read. Finally, I did so and wished I had done so sooner. I very much enjoyed the book's themes, the writing style and narrative. I have a strong interest in death penalty cases anyway, so this book was right up my alley. I feel like this novel touched on so many important themes, so many nuances of crime, punishment, judgement, and forgiveness.
