The novel of Amir and Hassan is a powerfully, well-written story. Amir is the son of a Pashtun aristocrat who lives in Kabul, Afghanistan. Hassan is the son of a Hazara servant, Ali. My new favorite quote is, "For you a Thousand times over." I think this is a fabulous read. I laughed, I cried, and I was comforted by this book. I have a newly blooming curiousity about the middle east now. AND, this speaks for itself: I finished this book while I was at work on break. DNF. I tried to read this multiple times and I feel so bored. I didn't even get to the main story line. Although, after reading a book summary I'm a bit glad I didn't power through.
