Great story - felt so very real. Also, I thought I knew what to expect after the first 50 pages or so, but it definitely moved in a variety of different directions throughout. Highly recommend to just about anyone.

3.5/5

It's fine as a young adult book, but I certainly wouldn't say it's a must read.

"Everyone in the world deserves a standing ovation at least once."

Everyone must read this! Such a beautifully written novel which leaves you feeling good. It is the story of August, who has a rare facial deformity, going to school for the first time- in 5th grade. There is bullying and there is kindness. The story is written in sections, jumping around between different points of view. I often find this annoying. It's confusing or I'm reading the same thing over and over. Not so here. The change

I was urged to read this book by my 9 year old daughter. She even said to me, "Have you started Wonder? You know it means a lot to me!". So I got on it right away.
She sure did pick a good book for her momma. I absolutely loved the message of this book. If there's one thing I've tried to teach my kids, it's that, above all else, Kindness. This book said everything I've always told my daughter, (view spoiler)

“Here’s what I think: the only reason I’m not ordinary is that no one else sees me that way.”

This is the story of August (Auggie) Pullman, a boy with rare facial abnormalities, as he starts school for the first time. It's a brutal crash course in how cruel children (and life) can be, but beautifully told. A quick, easy read for anyone who likes YA/Children's fiction and is looking for a story to fall in love with.

A beautifully told story of a boy who faces so many challenges at school because of his appearance. He's really a cool kid but people keep him at arms length - that is until someone finally breaks from the pack and shows him some decency. Not all follow suit at once, but it goes to show that sometimes it only takes one small act of kindness to turn things around. Such a simple idea, yet such a complex concept for most. ...more
