The first appearance of one of my most favorite demigod characters, Nico di Angelo. I kept forgetting how he was this young when he was first introduced to us. This precious little kid that made our heart ached suffered so much at such young age. Yes, maybe Percy and Annabeth and other demigods faced different kinds of difficulty and near-death experiences too, but no one seemed as fragile as Nico. He needed to be protected at all cost.

In my opinion, this is honestly where the series starts to get a little more interesting and the stakes start to get higher. We have more characters and more wonderful interactions with the gods, goddesses, and titans, plus more sass from Percy. I’ve come to appreciate how the ending is also a little bittersweet—things aren’t cleanly resolved. Can’t wait for the next one.
