Very cathartic. There were some parts I would have changed to make it more so, hence no five stars. I really wanted the Puritans to know exactly how wrong they all were and wallow in their wrongness. But this was very good. Will be revisiting.

I went into this book really hoping for 'The Witch' in novel form since I love that movie so much, and ended up rather disappointed. I love a good devil story, but the truth is that the middle part of this book really dragged. Once the witch hunt starts, it picks up. However, I felt that the torture parts of the witch trial were overdone for shock value. I have read plenty of body horror but describing the torture of women in witch trials felt gratuitous in this case. Sure, it lies up ...more
