I finally decided to read this Pulitzer prize-winning book when I got the prompt in a reading challenge. So many people have already detailed the summary, so I won't repeat that.
This primarily stories for a blind girl Marie in France and an orphan boy Werner in Germany. Their stories run parallel alternatively as they grow through the final years of WW II.

All The Light We Cannot See was an absolute treat to begin my new-year-reading with!
Historical fiction has been been a pleasure to read but ATLWCS (long name!) has certainly set a high standard for this genre. Although the chapters were brief and the author simultaneously juggled between Werner and Marie-Laure's sides, it never ceased to detach my level of concentration. The language was so poetic and imagery so vivid, it was almost like watching a beautiful movie set in 1940s.

The writing is exquisite and the story is haunting. The short chapters showing the lives of a blind 16-year old French girl and a brilliant 18-year old German boy during WWII work beautifully. Their stories move quickly and I found I was worrying about them, even when I wasn't reading. I think the book would have worked better if Doerr hadn't given us the intermittent previews of 1944 and what had happened. I wanted the story to unfold on its own.
