After finishing Cinder in practically one sitting, I was desperate to get my hands on Scarlet. When I went to the library a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't decide between this one and another, so I had my mom choose. Let's just say, she didn't choose this one. So we'll just blame her for me not reading it earlier. :P But seriously, I can't believe it took me this long to read it!

Scarlet was just.. awesome! It was wonderfully fascinating, emotionally stimulating, and delightfully comical. So we'll just blame her for me not reading it earlier. :P But seriously, I can't believe it took me this long to read it!

Scarlet was just.. awesome! It was wonderfully fascinating, emotionally stimulating, and delightfully comical. The only reason that this is getting 4 stars from me is because I didn't think it had surpassed my love for Cinder. This sequel was amazing in all its written glory, but it didn't come close to the feelings I had after I finished the first book. While I found myself not being able to put it down, I didn't quite warm up to the story until later on, especially with the additions of Scarlet and Wolf.

I was incredibly happy to see that Cinder and Kai's story continued, because I didn't want to let go of either of them. For the first part of the book, I found myself preferring their scenes to the ones of Scarlet and Wolf. And I just loved the addition of Thorne, and the resurface of the ever-delightful Iko. They brought such a comical relief that added to the richness of the story and made it ten times better. It was a nice reprieve from the intense scenes that Meyer writes so well.

It wasn't until later on that my feelings switched on me and I didn't want to stop reading about the two main characters, Scarlet and Wolf. Scarlet is one heroine who doesn't back down from a fight, and she will do everything in her power for the people she loves. Wolf, on the other hand, is mysterious and shy, and only wants to help. Or so it seems.. Even when secrets come to light and it seems we were all wrong about him, he surprises us and makes us love him even more. I knew he was the good guy! :)

The book was action-packed, with so many twists and turns that you won't see them coming. I sure didn't. And I love how Meyer builds up the suspense that she started this book out with, penning in convincing fight scenes and keeping us on the edge of our toes.

With heroines who kick butt, bad boys who are loyal and protective, and an exceptional story-line and plot, Meyer has penned a brilliant re-telling of the classic fairytales we all love so much.

So much love that I have for this series. <3

And I CANNOT wait to see what other characters will join this misfit group of Earthens, cyborgs, Lunars, and androids. :)

My only disappointment? Having to wait until 2014 for this wonderful story to continue! WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG?! Excuse me while I go curl up like a ball in the corner and cry... I guess I'll just have to reread these to suppress my need to have Cress in my hands. ...more

Um Wolf.
Um Thorne.
Um to every freaking page of heart-attack bringing goodness! I'm still in a whirlwind after that fast-paced merciless beautiful book. I will definitely need a month before I can even think of getting the next one. My heart needs a break.
But wow--how is the author going to fix all this? Great book series! ...more

Well, that was amazing. Definitely not a disappointment. I loved the first book and I think I love this even more. In truth, I was hesitant in reading this book, unsure if I would like the delay from the HEA and new added perspective by Scarlet (Little Red Riding Hood) but in the end, I loved the new characters and didn't mind the delay at all cause the story was amazing.

I absolutely love fairytale re-tellings but this series knocks every single other one out there. It is definitely a kick from Well, that was amazing. Definitely not a disappointment. It is definitely a kick from the normal Cinderella love story we all thought it would be, but it is and more. There's added mystery and more action in this book that made me fall in love with it more. And of course, let us not forget the added fairytale characters which is a definite BONUS!

Now, let us talk about the new characters:
***Scarlet- There has been some debates on her because of her attitude. You may either like it or not at all. She's stubborn, has a bad temper when it comes to those she loves and those who cannot stand up for themselves and of course is not afraid to speak her mind. I liked all these qualities about her. Without these qualities, Scarlet would just be an uninteresting, boring, normal character, which is the exact opposite of what she should be, so I have no complaints about her personality at all. I like her fieriness because it keeps her from being a damsel in distress. (Although not always as she can't really fight physically.)
***Thorne- Well I have two words for him from reading this book: pervert and cheeky. Honestly at times it did gross me out but other times his cheekiness is just charming. I'm actually doubting Cinder and Kai ending up together. I'm not exactly sure if Thorne likes Cinder in that way but if he does, I am not surprised. But I also have the thought of him possibly ending up with the new protagonist in the next book, Cress. I don't know, that is all in the hands of Marissa Meyer.
***Wolf- Whoo, get ready ladies cause you may just meet your new book boyfriend. I loved him even if he was a bit stiff at times but how he's so intent on leaving his old bad life, making things right and protecting Scarlet just made me fall for him. Especially reading his declaration at the end of the book.

I also have something to say about the not-so-new characters:
***Cinder- I don't have much to say about her because she's still the same old Cinder except she has matured a bit and has became a stronger character but is still a bit confused with all this new information and weight on her shoulders. She also shows more emotions in this with the still-fresh death of Peony and of course her little (or maybe not so little) crush on Kai. It's a bit sad she can't cry because at times I just felt she needed to just for the release of it.
***Kai- I am so sorry to say this but he is definitely stupid in this book. Not that I label him stupid but he just makes stupid assumptions and mistakes in this book because he doesn't know everything; facts and events the most. I don't blame him because he is helpless at that fact but there are times I could take it and at times I could not.
***Queen Levina- She doesn't make much of an appearance in this book and when she does, she doesn't annoy me like she used to. Maybe it's cause I'm used to it now, but I also have to admit that I got a bit soft for her at the end and think that maybe that she does have feelings and actually did love someone at some time.

This book was amazing and I am so excited to read the next one which will probably be as good or better than this. I recommend this series to EVERYONE. ...more

After reading Cinder, I was absolutely DYING to get my hands on this book. I couldn't wait another moment to find out what happened between Kai and Cinder, and OMG what a cliffhanger ending! Finding out she was Princess Selene? *mind flip*
