I get the feeling that Jane Eyre may have ruined future English classics for me. I find it hard to imagine other classics topping this one. This was actually a book that I had no interest in reading because I had been underwhelmed by a Jane Eyre miniseries I watched several years ago. However, so many people have urged me to read this, saying it’s an excellent book, and they weren’t wrong.

Yes, as a senior citizen, I'm a bit behind the curve with my first reading of Jane Eyre, but thanks to my book group that's reading classics this year (and Alex, whose choice it was), that deficiency has finally been rectified. And in this case, I'm sure glad it has, because Jane Eyre is wonderful, both the book and the character. She's a heroine you can root for, admire, and wish to be more like in some ways. Doesnt really enjoy it. Too slow paced and more importantly the issue doesn't resonate well to me.
