The movie was just okay. It started off very promising, and I was actually thinking it'd be really good! Then they changed a number of things and made the romance between Clary and Jace so incredibly cheesy. What was up with the score and the swelling music? The film also failed to explain/explore the fascinating shadowhunter world! And what about Luke's backstory? The Jocelyn/Luke/Valentine story? Also, those who haven't read the book wouldn't understand Hodge's motivation and why he couldn't leave the Institute. Simon was, by far, my favorite portrayal in the film.
I liked the film, but it's definitely not the best. Wish they could have done better.
@Bella Sarah Maas is fantastic! Both as a person and as a writer (LOVE her books). Welcome to the group! @Malissa That's so cool you lived in Japan for awhile! Welcome to the group!
I would totally join this, but I procrastinated and I need to work on my paper, due on the 28th. And I work all day tomorrow and the next. :(

Not that I'm team Warner (because i'm not), and not that I don't agree Juliette was whiny and weak (which is why I love Kenji, because he sets her straight), but I heard someone give an interesting point: Juliette is weakest with Adam, because he doesn't challenge/allow Juliette to think independently. Adam's SPOILER ******************* power actually weakens Juliette as well, while Warner strengthens her power END SPOILER ************** Warner doesn't pretend that Juliette isn't powerful, isn't capable of destruction, and he pushes her to accept herself, to become stronger. Warner may have wanted to use Juliette as a weapon, but I can't help but wonder how this love triangle will end. It kind of worries me, in a way.
Team Adam, though! :D

I don't have anything against the book personally, but I didn't like Hannah. I don't wish to downplay any of the things that happen, but she took the easy way out. And while it's understandable, the way Hannah went about recording those tapes seemed to make her gesture that much more selfish. And it didn't endear me to her character at all. But it's definitely a thought provoking story. One that I believe is worth reading, in the end. And I am glad I read it. Suicide is a very difficult topic to write about, but I think Jay did a pretty decent job (overall).
