Okay so I loved this book. I still haven't got my copy of Kingdom of the Cursed but I'm really excited to see how the cliffhanger from book one plays out. What were your thoughts?
Eileen wrote: "Did you ever find something?"Nope but I heard of this book called Pulp which is LGBTQ+ and set in the 50's. It's by Robin Talley.

Honestly I agree with a lot o..."It was well written but I felt like it lost the essence or the message of what it was trying to convey by the end. Maybe that was why the ending didn't feel complete?

I read this book last year! I thought it had a simple plot and likeable characters. I kind of was expecting more from the mystery though.

Okay so I finished the book a couple days or so and I have a lot of thoughts about the ending. If you read the book what did you think?
Eileen wrote: "That is great to hear! I like solid character development. But the author has always been pretty good at that, so it's good to hear it's coming along nicely!"Indeed. I'm finishing the book off today I'll round up all my thoughts into a review and put them here as well :)

So I have about 50 pages left maybe? And so far we've uncovered a lot of things that were not explained earlier and we got a lot of backstory. I like how this book also has mystery elements in a way for example, you get the story but it starts to unravel as you start piecing together bits of information that make up Shadi's personality and characterisation and why she feels the way she does. I love this way of storytelling and I think it suits the book really well!
Eileen wrote: "Just wanted to say that I just finished the author's second novel and I ended up liking it more. It's a completely different story though! It's billed as a YA romance, but I think it's more of a co..."Ooh yay! That's really good to hear. I didn't really like I Hope You Get This Message but I'm glad she has grown as a writer in her new books :)
Eileen wrote: "(It'll be an 8 week wait for me, but I'll have to get around to it at some point)"Oooh yay! And I definitely recommend this (so far). I'm looking at a 4-4.5 star rating at the moment? I still have around 100 pages left so anything could happen.

So far I'm around 100 pages in and so far I'm loving it. The main character Shadi reminds me so much of a real life person I know and I definitely can see how Tahereh Mafi has grown as a writer especially with the character voice. I think her writing is very poetic and I love how she builds her characters too, they are very realistic and have lots of layers. I've read A Very Large Expanse of Sea and even wrote my major essay about it last year and can definitely see the similarities and differences between Tahereh's two contemporaries. In AVLEOS Shirin, the main character had a very angsty tone whereas Shadi had a more sombre tone about her (I can't really describe it but if you read the book you'd know what I'm talking about). I'm very excited to see where the book heads from here.

This is one of my favourite books in the whole world! Wildcard is just as good and has lots of twists and turns. I hope you get around to reading it soon! It's definitely worth a read :)
