APRIL MINI CHALLENGE IS HERE!!
Head on over here for more details!
The tracking spreadsheet is updated with a new tab.
Time to bring out our creative thinking caps - we have a two-parter challenge!
Part One has specific tasks to tackle.
Part Two is all about our fellow teams.
There are a lot of prompts for books, so please take a beat to go through them.
Books can be started at anytime after Apr 1,
but CANNOT be finished before the start of the Mini Challenge.
THE MINI CHALLENGE HAS ALREADY STARTED FROM THE 12TH!
Alyana wrote: "The mini is in our official ss. What are the plans?"Will get things set up later tonight in the tracking sheet.
But get ready for a rambunctious Mini! :)
I have ROFL-ed reading it.

Good to see you back in the mix, Sharon. We certainly did miss your presence last month! :)
Amy wrote: "We're, like, ten days into April and I feel bad because I haven't read much of anything. *hides*I'm sorry! We just finished all the stuff necessary to start an office renovation at work (mostly cl..."
Totally understandable, Amy. It is always a 'when it rains, it pours' kind of a situation, isn't t? But good to hear that you folks finished all that you had to do to get ready for renovation, And super awesome that vacation time is coming up soon - that will make the days go by really fast, I bet.
Thanks for dropping in an update.
Lazy Days wrote: "Ah so the book that I finished this morning (my 1 April) can't be used? Should've left it the last chapter till tonight!"Re-read the last two chapters again tonight. LOL!

ALL OF YOU DESERVE A MASSIVE PAT ON THE BACK!
Two months in and we have amassed every point we can and are doing really well on the leaderboard.
Massive hats-off of everybody for being flexible with your reading and going above and beyond to accommodate different books in your reading schedules.
Now, we just need to finish it with a bang!
April tracking sheet is already up, so feel free to log in all your prospective books.
Remember, the month starts only after the clock ticks to 0 here: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
Alyana wrote: "Quick question, I noticed that our mini points in the ranking are 470 instead of 480?"Good catch. It seems that the formula in that cell wasn't carried over and the Mods hand-wrote it there. Flagged it for them to fix.
... AND WE ARE DONE!!!You folks are absolute troopers!
We finished everything that was given to us.
A whooping 3080 points!!
Woot woot!!
UPDATE
We are in the last leg of the month and we are again very close to completing everything we have. Just one last push required!!

I haven't yet started reading it.
Thanks for catching it though! :)
Alyana wrote: "Amy wrote: "Alyana wrote: Amy, I think the 3 NY public libraries have the out of state library card service if I'm not mistaken. I work with Queens Library. If not, I'm happy to download audio/eboo..."Ummm? Yeah, it is on Hand 13!
Not sure I understand.
Sharon wrote: "Completed
The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson
Read - 3/22"
Sharon, when you get a chance, can you please check if this book fits any of the tasks for the mini in the spreadsheet? Thanks!
Jessica wrote: "My current book works for the sweet potato task in the mini and the someone rebuilding their house..I have it under blue cover at the moment, but plan to move it to one of these rarer to find atask..."I'd say sweet potato - that animal is slightly tougher to find tasks for.
Alyana wrote: "Hi all, for one of the characteristics of Cephalopods, can we use "camouflage" in the text instead? I may have a book for it :)"This was literally the question asked by some other team. Here is the response.
-------------------------------------
5Q: Would one option be to find 'word in text' like CAMOUFLAGE/D or ARCTIC or all letters in title, series or authors name?
5A: The problem I see with "word in text/title" is which words? The descriptions contain lots of words and it makes it a hard one to put guidelines around.
I would be ok with the name of the animal being in the text or title, though
---------------------------------------
So, while I'd wish that - this would not work. :(
I even realized that for "spider", it can't be just that, it has to be the "flower spider"! Ugh!
Amy wrote: "Do collections of folk tales count as fiction or nonfiction? In that vein, most characters in folk tales don't really have names (like 'Sam' or 'Cassie') but are known in the story by some other ..."
For question 1, it depends. Something like Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space is Non-Fiction Fairy Tales, but Cinder is a Fiction Fairy Tale. If the GoodReads shelf calls it out as Fiction, that is what we should be using it as, Same for Non-Fiction.
Titles or Designations are not considered as names.
Amy wrote: "Unfortunately, Las Vegas Public Libraries is discontinuing their out of state library card service on the 27th and this pretty much decides all my reading for the next couple weeks. I will be readi..."Amy, can you please go through the task list and verify if these fit anywhere? Note that the "characteristic" tasks that are there are just the first few I could think off - if you can come up with others that suit the book and fit the animal description, go for it.
Let's try and use as many books as we can.
Jessica wrote: "
Would this work for "pattern" for the mini?"
I think this should work. The red and yellow stripes are in a specific pattern from what I understand.

MARCH MINI CHALLENGE IS HERE!!
Head on over here for more details!
The tracking spreadsheet is updated with a new tab.
This is going to be an interesting task to track because it is fairly open-ended and depends on our creativity and discretion.
So, as starters, I have created some basic tasks that we can tackle.
But, if you could identify more or better "characteristic" tasks, please feel free to add in to the spreadsheet.
Books can be started at anytime after Mar 1,
but CANNOT be finished before the start of the Mini Challenge.
