Ooh - I wasn't aware of the other book. There is also one expanding the tales of Ariland. So much to read!!
I agree, Rachmi. Unlike Enchanted, the setting changes didn't flow smoothly in Hero. I was also slightly surprised when those two characters popped up, especially the one. (view spoiler)
Good to know! Now I'm looking forward to reading Dearest. My hold on that book at the library had expired before I could get it, so had to request it again. Thanks!
No, Heidi, you are correct as far as I remember. No mention was made of Monday's daughter. Actually, very little was said about Monday's life at all, other than the fact that she had married a prince and lived in a castle. I guess I had kind of assumed hers was the "Cinderella" tale. Now, though, I almost wonder if it was more Beauty and the Beast. Kontis needs to write Monday's tale and Thursday's too!
Cool. So very glad that you guys are doing OK too. I was getting worried that there had been health set backs or something.
OK, you guys have been super quiet this month. I'm getting concerned. Is anyone else reading this? I finished Hero a few days ago. Unfortunately, my hold on Dearest at the library was sent back since I couldn't get there in time to pick it up, so have to reserve again. As far as Hero goes, I enjoyed the tale, but not nearly as much as I expected. I still adore Saturday, and loved the plot and the characters of Peregrine and Betwixt, but I really missed all the interactions with the other siblings. I think that was one of the things I most enjoyed about Enchanted - even though it was Sunday's tale, all of the family were totally involved. With Saturday's tale, some of her family were there for short time frames, but not that often, and there was very little interaction.
I love that the author almost immediately brought in references to other tales with a twist. (view spoiler)
I'm so glad you enjoyed them, Shana! Things have been kind of busy for me lately, so I have only just barely started Hero, but I know I'll love it.
I haven't read that collection, so will have to look it up. Thank you! I'm exactly like you with American Gods. lol I have it sitting on one of my bookshelves where it has been for years, but haven't read it yet. I keep wondering if I'll really like that one. My fav of his is still Neverwhere, and I keep wanting him to write more about that world and characters. He is weird, but it's a good weird most of the time.
Sorry about the currency difference and really wish you had good libraries to use too, Rach! That is one thing these group discussions do - teach us all about the cultural differences between so many countries and even areas within the same country.
I love Neil Gaiman! He's one of my favorite authors. When you made the suggestion for reading his short story book, I was franticly looking for another short story to read with it to make that selection. Which one are you reading, Rachmi?
This one is on hold for me, and I was going to get it today, but something came up, so I'll pick it up Saturday. I didn't realize it was a twist on the swan tale!
This one I already picked up from the library and will start this weekend. Wow, Rach! I hadn't even read the preview synopsis for Hero, but knew I wanted to read it based on how much I enjoyed the writing style of Enchanted and loved the character of Saturday. Now I'm looking forward to it even more!
Couldn't agree more with your spoiler, Heidi! I also agree with your feelings about the "fairy godmother" (finally someone explaining why she had to use other items and the time limit) and Poppy. Actually, the depth of all the side characters is one of the main things I enjoyed about this book. So often in fairy tales, or actually any book, the only characters that the reader really gets to know are the main character or two. In this tale, I really felt like I got to know so many of the secondary and even minor characters.
