One might(?) expect a report on the Report from Vollmann himself (?); a Part Two perhaps to his thing on surveillance pub'd in Harpers last Summer(?) I can only imagine Bill's level of disgust with these unAmericans.

"The Center Did Not Hold" by Dava Sobel
NYT: February 26, 2006
"Vollmann's own darkness and self-abnegation seem to have made him forget that, whatever he may think of his hero — he criticizes him for laxity, lack of originality, "ghastly syntax" and "prose of incomparable dreariness" — Copernicus has hardly faded into oblivion. Yet, as Vollmann makes clear, non-mathematicians have good reason to avoid reading the actual text of the great man's admirable legacy"

63 bucks is still pretty steep, but when you need the crack you need the crack....
And again, thanks for dropping by with this offer, Daniel.

and just on a technical note, can you give us some bona fides of sorts so we know you're not an internet troll, which is unlikely and everything ; claiming your gr author profile, for example, would authentic :: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
otherwise, very stoked for this volume!

"On William T. Vollmann: An Indulgence" by Justin Taylor
November 3, 2014 --:
http://electricliterature.com/on-will...
Concluding para begins, "All of this is a prelude to discussing the one thing that truly did—does—surprise me about my reunion with The Rainbow Stories, and that thing is Vollmann’s extraordinary, indeed exquisite, sense of control. What I as a young enthusiast took for pell-mell freedom and chaos is in fact the result of careful orchestration and staging, within individual stories and in terms of the collection as a whole. This doesn’t mean...." and I cut it there because it's one of those "of course there are flaws" comments which I find tedious and pandering all the time...

I've still got my fingers crossed that that volume of Vollmann criticism will ship this week.

Kickstarter? A thing like that? You know, the impression I got when I spoke with Bill was that it sort of hangs on McSweeney's. Who's talking to Eggers?
More than photocopying would be involved. The thing is riddled with errors and there'd have to be a whole 'nother editing team to hack it back into shape, reset the whole thing ; hopefully add another vollume maybe.
Meanwhile, anyone find it on one of those torrent sites yet? The review=copy sent out to various reviewing entities was in cd-rom format....

You make an excellent point! McSweeney's is non-profit, right? No? If so, a simple exchange of grant moneys or something.

If you've got the time, you might want to click on "comments" : I saw Michael Hemmingson in there somewhere, self-promoting a thing.
