One might(?) expect a report on the Report from Vollmann himself (?); a Part Two perhaps to his thing on surveillance pub'd in Harpers last Summer(?) I can only imagine Bill's level of disgust with these unAmericans.
My copy arrived from the publisher yesterday. amazon says they're out of stock(?) Looks fantastic!

Concluding para begins, "All of this is a prelude to discussing the one thing that truly did—does—surprise me about my reunion with The Rainbow Stories, and that thing is Vollmann’s extraordinary, indeed exquisite, sense of control. What I as a young enthusiast took for pell-mell freedom and chaos is in fact the result of careful orchestration and staging, within individual stories and in terms of the collection as a whole. This doesn’t mean...." and I cut it there because it's one of those "of course there are flaws" comments which I find tedious and pandering all the time...
amazon tells me "December 19" ; but they give me no shipping/arrival date which I take to mean that they don't know yet if they'll have it in stock and shippable condition at that time. Fingers crossed.
And an ESPECIAL thanks to MALA who puts her neck on the line for Our Bill and His Books (and Dolores!), suffering the slings and the arrows of a miserable and cruel world!!! Double that appreciation to MALA!
amazon still lists the pub date as the first. But they've got no shipping date for me. The publisher has no further info. You can be sure I'll quote my amazon=shipment email when the time comes ; as if we can wait for that!

Ah shucks guys I just wanted to say thanks to you all ; but so I'll just add a "you're welcome" and "it's been and continues to be a supreme pleasure" ; didn't really mean to get all sentimental but even and especially on a day like today there's nothing wrong with a little sentimentality. I've still got my fingers crossed that that volume of Vollmann criticism will ship this week.

More than photocopying would be involved. The thing is riddled with errors and there'd have to be a whole 'nother editing team to hack it back into shape, reset the whole thing ; hopefully add another vollume maybe.
Meanwhile, anyone find it on one of those torrent sites yet? The review=copy sent out to various reviewing entities was in cd-rom format....
