Last night I started reading Call the Midwife: A True Story of the East End in the 1950s.
by Jennifer Worth. I have read quite a few books in the past few weeks, many of which were good, but I could tell from the first few pages that this is the best I've read in a while. Jennifer Worth is just one of those people who can really tell a story.
I gave books as gifts and I got books as gifts, I got "The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh; "Call the Midwife" by Jennifer Worth; & "The Pirate Coast" by Richard Zacks. I've already finished "The Language of Flowers!"
Just started Gregor the Overlander
Suzanne Collins. This is one that will be a "Hot Read" in my library in January. It is my rule to always pre-read the books for Hot Reads. I have to stretch myself to read genres I don't normaly go for. This one is fantasy.
Just finished The Jane Austen Book Club
by Karen Joy Fowler. It is probably the closest I will ever come to being in a Jane Austen book club.
STILL reading, Shoot the Moon by Billie Lets.Moon Over Manifest
by Clare Vanderpool,and several others.
Just started 2 new books on Kindle.
Secrets to Die For by L.J. Sellers &
Freshwater Road by Denise Nicholas.
It takes a truly BAD book for me to give it up without finishing. I even finished the book version of "Forrest Gump" which in my opinion must be one of the worst books ever written. Who ever wrote the screen play for the movie worked a miracle.
I am an elementary librarian and so am familiar with lots of holiday stories.for Thanksgiving my favorite is "Milly and the Macy's Parade" by Shana Corey, ill. by Brett Helquist
For Christmas I have several favorites:
Hans Christian Anderson's "The Littel Match girl" retold and illustrated by Jerry Pinkney and "Welcome Comfort" written and illustrated by Patricia Polacco.
