Hi Kori! Welcome to “Safety in Numbers”!!! Thanks for joining! Please tell your book friends about this group, the more the merrier! Where abouts in the States do you live? As you can see from previous comments, we have people from all over, which I love! So interesting! So what genres do you like to read? I like to think that there is something here for everyone as each month we hop from genre to genre. We start a new book on the 1st of each month, and you can find out what book we are reading next in the “Book Schedule 2019” thread. I try to give a couple of weeks notice to give you all chance to get hold of a copy of the chosen book. As I said on the Instagram thread, the adventure we have just plunged into for March is “Misery” by Stephen King if you want to come along? As Sara said, there is no such thing as being too late in this group. Any questions? Or have I covered everything?

If you enjoyed it then, I’m sure you will enjoy it even more now! X

It’s surprising that you haven’t read this one already as you are obviously a Stephen King fan Shawnda?

Will this be your first Stephen King book?

I have to say I am VERY excited about this one! Anyone coming along on this adventure?

Finished!! Just in time before I start the group book for March tomorrow!
So...The Beast Player, where do I start? I have so many different feelings about this book, I am trying really hard not to be biased in this review, for the one reason that Fantasy is not usually my “go to” genre. However, I did find the whole oriental feel of this book very interesting as I have not read a book with this vibe before.
I did enjoy this book but at times I did find how political the story was, a bit complicated especially for a book supposedly suited for young adults. On the positive side I felt that the writer did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life, and that every single one of them had an obvious important part to play in the plot whether this part was to be a goody or a baddy. I find books with pointless, unnecessary characters can be quite annoying at times. On the whole, a good choice for the February group read Sara!!

Jose, since you said that you like reading books of the romance genre that also include a bit of drama and action, I have been rumaging through my brain trying to remember the name of the book that you saying this reminded me of! Then it finally came to me: Until we meet again by Renee Collins. Going by the type of books that you have said that you like to read, I think that you would really enjoy this book. If you get chance to read this one, let me know what you think.

No never too late! Even if you are interested in books that we have read in previous months, each book discussion will always stay there and you can add your thoughts to them at any time!

Hi Jose, Welcome to Safety in numbers! I am so pleased that we are getting more and more readers in this group from all over the world! And I LOVE how books can bring people together like this! In this group we hop from genre to genre each month, this way I like to think that not only is there something for everyone, but it also encourages readers to give different genres a try and maybe even surprise theirselves by how much they enjoy a book that they would not necessarily have picked themselves had it not been for this group. As you may have noticed this months book is called “The Beast Player” which is of the fantasy genre, chosen by Sara (Thank you again Sara, I am really enjoying this book so far). The genre of March is Horror and the book will be “Misery” by Stephen King. But in the months following I can assure you that there will definitely be a romance and a comedy genre month. So keep an eye out for those in the “Book Schedule”. Once again welcome, and I really hope you enjoy the many adventures that lie ahead with us!

Hi Andi, welcome to Safety in numbers! And I think everyone goes through phases of not reading for ages, then when they start again they tend to realise how much they missed it! So you just read ‘young adult’? Is that your favourite genre?
Sara wrote: "I'll ask but I'm not sure if they have a goodreads. but I'll ask a friend if they want to join!"Wonderful! Spread the word!

So, I am 15% in and so far I am really enjoying this book!
(view spoiler)[ My only nit pick so far is that as much as I love a fast paced story line, I feel that Sohyon got killed off far too early, and that it happened before I had a chance to really get to know her character, and because of this, I didn't seem to get the full emotional impact of when she was executed, yes it was awful and very unfair, I just think that if i had had the time to connect with her character more I would have been more concerned for her than I was. Moving on, I have really connected with Elin's character and desperately want her to have a happy ending after all that she has been through! I love the relationship that has grown between her and Joeun and it makes me wish that everyone in this world was just like him in regards to his unbelievable generosity and kindness. Do i recall you saying that a friend of yours recommended this book to you Sara? By all means ask her if she would like to join us here at "Safety In Numbers" .

I am so looking forward to getting stuck into this book! Thankyou Sara for choosing it for this months group read!

This is where we discuss this book.

(This comment i am writing before I have read your spoilers Sara, I will also right a comment after I have read them, I wanted my own thoughts clear in my head before I look into the interesting points of view from other people). Right, I have just finished.
(view spoiler)[ Credit where credit is due, I did not see the “Jacob was Harry twist” coming! If anything I suspected more that Jacob was going to turn out to be the creepy step dad Ron (not sure why I thought this but in a thriller I think you have to expect the unexpected). However, I still do not get the whole Ethan character... what was the point of him? Why did he follow Ella about? Why was he at Zach’s party? Why did he make out that Ella tried to push him overboard on the boat? And did I miss read that the bones of two male bodies were found in the remains of the burnt out lake house? One of which was obviously Zach’s but if I read correctly, who did the other body belong to? If someone can answer any of these questions for me then please do. I’m also not sure how I feel about Ken being the hit and runner, this behaviour just didn’t seem to fit Ken’s character at all in my opinion. Overall I have read worse thrillers in my time but with this one I felt that too many times I kept waiting to come across parts of the book to be explained and they never were. (hide spoiler)]

Ok, let us know what you think Shawnda x
