826347 JUNE: A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin (FANTASY)
826347 Great! Did you and Mia finish “The girl with all the gifts? If yes what did you both think of it? X
826347 This book was chosen my Chris (my Mum), I have read a lot of good reviews about this book, am really looking forward to reading it!
826347 Finished!! I part read this book, part listened to it on audio book. (Which is probably why I have managed to finish much earlier this month.)
As I said in my previous post, I absolutely loved Melanie in this book and as the story went on, I grew to love her even more when I discovered that not only did her personality have the long list of good qualities that I stated previously, but by the end of the book I had yet another very important one to add to the long list: "BRAVE". This little girl was SOOOOO BRAVE!! (view spoiler) Finally I want to end this post by saying how brutal but heart warming this book was, and I am looking forward to watching the film as soon as possible to see how it differs from the book......One last thing, does anyone else think the title was a bit odd for the book? what are all the gifts that Melanie is supposed to have?

826347 Hi Rachel! As I said in my comment “This definitely wasn’t my favourite Stephen King book.” why not tell us a bit about yourself in the “Introduce Yourself” thread. What’s your favourite genres etc? X

826347 MAY: The Things you find in Rockpools by Gregg Dunnett (THRILLER)
826347 Please excuse my tag error in my last post x
826347 I just have to say how much I am enjoying this book! Thankyou Shawnda’s daughter for choosing it for March’s group read, I would never have usually picked this type of book to read, and if it wasn’t for you I would REALLY be missing out! I am now on page 117 and this book has already nearly had me in tears on several different occasions! (Strong emotions, crying or laughing, both signs of a good book! Nobody would ever read if it didn’t make you feel anything!) (view spoiler)

826347 No problem Shawnda, I am pleased you enjoyed it, hopefully your daughter will enjoy April’s book more as I think it is more modern fiction. It is interesting how the “13 year old you” enjoyed this book 30 years ago but your 13 year old daughter who only knows the world as it is now, wasn’t so keen and that she found the book “weird”. Just goes to show how much the world has changed in 30 years. It seems funny to think that this book was published the year that I was born!

826347 I am finally finished!! I hate to say this... but I am a bit disappointed with this one, it just isn’t what I thought it would be, I found the humour of the voice in Paul’s head very hard to follow. And because the book “Misery’s return” was not my type of book with it’s old fashioned setting and wording etc I struggled to keep track of this also. Yes the things that Annie did to Paul were horrific but I can’t help but feel that there were not as many twists and turns to the story as I would have liked. And I felt that the plot was slightly repetitive: (view spoiler) In comparison to other Stephen King books that I have read, such as “Pet Sematary”, “Misery” unfortunately is not one of my favourites.

826347 Hi everyone! I hope you are all ok, Unfortunately I am a bit behind with “Misery” at the moment with still 20% to go as I have had quite a busy month with birthday celebrations of my little boy turning 1. However I plan to catch up as soon as I can and am really looking forward to starting “The girl with all the gifts” chosen by Shawnda’s daughter. (I have my copy ready!) Until then please feel free to discuss “Misery” by Stephen King and I will be joining the discussion as soon as I have finished x

826347 APRIL: The Girl With All the Gifts (The Girl With All the Gifts, #1) by M.R. Carey (THRILLER)
Mar 14, 2019 07:40PM

826347 Thankfully we never have really bad storms here in England, I hope all is ok now. And no problem, this group is not only about all of you being introduced to new books but me also! And it’s so nice to see young people who appreciate books! I hadn’t heard of either of those titles. How about we go with “The girl with all the gifts.” Tell your daughter that it looks like a great choice and Thank you both for getting so involved in this group! X

826347 Did you ask your daughter if she would like to choose the book for April Shawnda? How are you both getting on with Misery? X
Mar 07, 2019 07:57AM

826347 Any genre, it doesn’t matter which x
Mar 07, 2019 07:48AM

826347 That’s so lovely!! My little boy is only 11 months old right now but I am really looking forward to when him and I can enjoy books together. He already loves a picture book 😊. Would your daughter like to choose a book for the April group read? If yes let me know the title and author x

Mar 06, 2019 09:40PM

826347 What page/% are you on Shawnda? X
Mar 06, 2019 08:38AM

826347 Ok, so I am now 10% in, I don’t think I have ever known so much to happen in the first 10% of a book! This is the complete opposite of what I would call a slow burner. (view spoiler)I love how unpredictable this book has been so far. It just doesn’t seem like things can get much worse for Paul from where I am standing... yet there is still another 90% to go! ⁉️🤓... I must read on!
