80482 I'm very impressed with the number and variety of reviews.

Just wrapped up & reviewed The Fall of Undal, a "mythdark" book as some would call it. It's a new release and continues a narrative of myth/historical fiction based on ancient cultures.

I'm now onto the other groupread...with The Last Wish in hand.

80482 Crap... actual timing ins July-August, but the URL for the poll sent originally has June-July in it. Ugh. So some links may not work from the emails. Sorry. GR limits broadcast emails so i can't send out a correction for a day or so.

This link should work:

80482 Some guidelines, keeping in mind that many members are authors but we are all here to read & learn about Sword & Sorcery.

1) Participate in other discussions more than you post/advertise in this folder. For new members, please get involved in meaningful discussions and build relationships before marketing.

2) If you decide to advertise, please do so at an appropriate frequency (i.e once per promotion...or...once per month would be generally okay; on the other hand, hourly updates on a "good-deal" are not acceptable).

Moderators will keep an eye on this to ensure the pacing feel right. We will respond to overzealous promoters as necessary.

80482 Christopher, I missed your above comment about the TV series of Witcher (Hexer). Sounds like it wasn't that great.

80482 Oliver, nice heads up. Looks like Nov 2015 there was a press release .

"In a press release, producers said the movie will star Geralt of Rivia, but won't be a straight adaptation of any of the novels or games. Instead, it will follow the "themes" of the short stories The Witcher and Lesser Evil from Sapkowski's The Last Wish collection. The film is expected to be the first in a series." GameStop

Christopher, Great question. I think it may be better posed in the below folders:

Feel welcome to copy/paste/repost in those areas.

80482 Must watch this trailer:

May premiere this Fall on Fox

http://nerdist.com/son-of-zorn-traile...

Copies from website:

"
For all of you Barbarians out there who’ve ever had to get an office job and then needed to shout, “By the fiery horde of Hrothgar the Merciless, you will pay for stealing my Hot Pocket!” Or, for all of you regular folks who’ve had to spend time with an animated warrior at a place of business or at home, there is now a show that speaks directly to your very specific, very narrow slice of the Venn Diagram of life… Son of Zorn! From The Last Man on Earth/LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Son of Zorn mixes animation and live action in a way only the pair behind The LEGO Movie could manage.

Jason Sudeikis plays Zorn, the cartoon warrior—reminiscent of He-Man or Conan—who returns to Orange County after a bloody ten year war to reunite with his estranged wife Edie (Cheryl Hines) and son Alangulon (Johnny Pemberton). He very quickly learns that life in Southern California is not the same as life in an animated mythical realm full of monsters and the like. (You’re also super not supposed to bring edged weapons to a public restaurant space. Just FYI.) Adding a wrinkle is Edie’s new boyfriend (Tim Meadows) a spectacularly regular dude.

The trailer looks like it does what the pair have always done best: combining very specific and subdued modern comedy to a very high concept scenario. The Last Man on Earth did it with the post-apocalypse, and they’re doing it again here. It looks like a great mixture of Archer, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, and a harder-edged Modern Family. You know you’re in for something extra weird when a giant falcon is hacked to pieces in the promo.

Son of Zorn will probably premiere this fall. Is this a show you’ll be watching? Let us know your first impressions in the comments below!"

80482 Just finished Philip Emery's review-starved The Shadow Cycles.

"To write sword-&-sorcery in the twenty-first century, it seemed to me, required a redefinition of the form. ‘The Shadow Cycles’ is my attempt at that redefinition – in effect, the formulation and deployment of a tarot." – Philip Emery

Over all, it was ok. Perhaps pushed the weird description too far. I'll still be following Emery. I like his poetic weirdness and desire to expand the genre.
