80482 Woo-hoo! I just received my library notification that the copy of Shadow of the Torturer that I placed on hold is ready for pick-up

80482 I found a forgotten box of Tor Conan novels that I bought at a yard sale a few years ago. On a lark, I read one

80482 Nice!

80482 When Valen was being published a few years back, I was reading/collecting comics regularly; however, life got in the way. I’m to finish reading it. Slain looks interesting to me as well.

For the past few years, I’ve been reading the OG Roy Thomas penned Marvel Conan books. Marvel is putting out some gorgeous looking hard-bound editions of those I may check out. Once I visit my local comic shop this week, I will be caught up on the current Conan Marvel books.

Short answer: eventually all of those listed.

80482 I cast my vote for comics, as that is the head space I’m currently in (S.E., you and I are on the same S&S bandwidth of comics); however, great categories. I will be happy with whatever group consensus

80482 I read the first 3 or 4 issues of Valen when it was released. Life happened and I had to give up collecting comics at the time, so was not able to read the whole series. I’m glad to see it is collected and available electronically. Slaine is a comic I’ve been interested in reading for some time. Thanks for the reminder of it.

80482 Hey all. I’m looking to my fellow comic book reading types. Around 2010 to 2012 (ish), there was a comic book series. Sword & Sorcery genre. It was about a Conan type king. He was undead and exiled.

Not much to go on, sorry. I read the first couple of issues and I’m trying to remember the name of it so I can buy the series digitally and read it.

80482 I’m back in Fafhrd and Gray Mouser mode. I’m on book 6. I started reading these in earnest in 2017. Thus far, they are like the OG cast Star Trek movies: I’ve enjoyed the even numbered books (2,4) however, the odd numbered books not as much. books 1 and 3 both had high points, but book 5 was particularly not my thing.

80482 Sounds like great morning treadmill fodder. Added. Thank you.
80482 I have not found a way to pre-order either. I am not even sure you can. I’m wanting to read Mr Hocking‘ books and M Stackpoles The Song of Belit. I’m interested to see if there is a novella attached to the Age of Conan comic that relates to the upcoming novel
80482 As Mr Hocking pointed out, yup, new edition is going to be available. I’ve been following this site with interest:

80482 Is the new edition out yet? I would love to read this for the discussion, but I’m waiting for the new edition so I don’t have to pay collectors price

80482 I’ve been in an Anthology mood of late. While traveling I found two missing teeth in my collection: Swords and Sorcery edited by L. Sprague de Camp and Flashing Swords #3 edited by Lin Carter. Just finished S&S and started FS3 this morning

80482 Jack Vance for me, Cugel’s Saga, and a smidge of Mythos short stories for Spooktober

80482 If only I had time for both: Dunsany or Sword & Planet, hmmm.

80482 I started The Lies of Locke Lamora. I’m still in shallow waters, maybe 50 pages or so. So far, it’s a fun mix of Grimdark and humor. Immediately, probably from recently reading, my brain started making comparisons to The Black Company; however, I’m not far enough along to call that valid

80482 Great topic: my story is much the same as others. I was a huge comic book nerd. But it wasn’t until I saw 1982’s Conan the Barbarian that I became a Conan nerd. This led into the comics. My favorite was Savage Sword of Conan.

I read the Tor Conan pastiche novels constantly. Eventually I discovered D&D which bled into other Fantasy. The Sword of Shannarra. From there I read every Tolkien imitator I found.

Oddly, I did not read Tolkien himself until College. I did not discover the joys of REH until I was 30 (a tad over 15 years ago). The only REH I read prior to getting my hands on the pure stuff, was the Ace decamp Carter paperbacks. I jumped way down the REH hole. Now I get kicks out of reading Clonans and catching up on all the great S&S I somehow missed out on.
