He didn’t say anything new in the introduction, but also didn’t say anything I disagree with

I can, but it will take some thought

Sure. Having read David C. Smith’s Literary Biography of REH, I’m paying attention to REH’s use of repetition in his writing, as well as his use of color. Example:

Totally digging my re-read of Crimson Shadows: The Best of Robert E. Howard Volume 1

Reading several things at once: I received the first three issue of Tales from the Magician’s Skull from subscribing during the kickstarter, also reading The Best of Robert E Howard Volume 1 (Del Rey), and slowly combing through Conan the Barbarian (Marvel Omnibus Volume 1) and as a companion to that Barbarians Life, by Roy Thomas

I got a rock (said in my best Charlie Brown voice)

Err, “I can’t recommend it ENOUGH”

I can’t recommend David C. Smith’s Literary Biography of REH enough as a companion to this group read.

I’ve done this before, but it’s been a few years.
I’m a semi-active member of this group. I lurk much more than I post, but I check in every day.
I started as a Conan fan way back during my childhood around the release of the Schwarzenegger movie. My fascination with Conan led into a love of “all things Conan”. Bunny-Ears indicating that I mostly loved Conan comics, but sadly remained ignorant of Robert E Howard.
That fascination entered in my 30’s with the publication of the Del Rey Howard books. Eventually I entered into the phase I’m in now: I enjoy discovering classics of Sword & Sorcery, and interacting with present authors of fresh new S&S. I toy with the idea of writing myself, but mostly day dream of doing so.
I’m an Alaskan. By trade, I am involved with NAVAIDS, things that keep airplanes in the sky and help them land. I am a husband, father and grandfather. Other than reading S&S (and fantasy and science fiction in general) I enjoy comic books, RPGs and board games.

Tarzan Alive: A Definitive Biography of Lord Greystoke, by Philip Jose Farmer is so far every bit as entertaining as I’d hoped. I became interested in reading it several years ago after Kim Newman stated it was a big influence on his Anno Dracula books. It’s out of print, and has no ebook that I know of, but copies can be found at a reasonable price.

@Joseph I have been trying to track down a copy of Blackstar for a long time. I’ve heard it’s his best

For a fun sword & sorcery read, pick up Marvel Comics Bizarre Adventures #1. The opening story is about a character named Ulysses Bloodstone. I’m not sure if it will be a reoccurring character, but I hope so.
Two of the remaining stories are good, goofy pulpy fun, one being a Dracula tale. I didn’t care for the 4th.
Honestly, this is one of the better Marvel Comics put out in a while.

I’m more apt to read something from an earlier decade, but I don’t snub everything

I would love to be enthusiastic, but they are only batting 500 with the Conan titles they currently have
