79311 same here!

79311 yes, go to that corner! plus i will be sending you a copy of White Noise as a symbol of my displeasure.

it's funny, i've read the 'dry' comment before regarding Scott but it is hard for me to see it. details a'plenty, yes, but i think his prose is so [enter corny words like poetic, lyrical, evocative, etc here] that i never see him as dry.

79311 well, i do plan on living forever.
Sep 18, 2012 07:23PM

79311 it is exactly like that. you know the inside of my consciousness so well!
Truman Capote (9 new)

79311 true. this is, after all, the same man who had a cameo appearance in Murder By Death. a perverse sort!
Colin Wilson (8 new)

79311 not sure i can add much to what Dan('s) said. an interesting defense of Wilson. Like!

79311 love. although i hope that Paul Bryant does not find this discussion topic. look away, Paul, look away!

79311 Aloha, you clearly don't realize that i will live forever. when this metal body wears down, i will simply have it replaced. and besides, my consciousness is portable.

79311 i've been adding topics for those authors that i hope to complete one day. because i am a completist! but for some reason i am feeling bashful about my low-brow genre favorites Jack Vance, Philip K Dick, Robert Silverberg, Michael Moorcock, and um Tanith Lee. see how i even added that qualifying "um" in there? pathetic!
E.F. Benson (4 new)

79311 i loved the entire Mapp & Lucia series. brill! had very mixed feelings about Ravens' Brood.

a friend left me his near-complete collection of E.F. Benson novels when he passed away. so one of these days i plan on tackling them. but i'm feeling the need to re-read those Mapp & Lucia books first.

79311 very surprised to see Mark Leyner! My Cousin, My Gastroetc was amusing.

79311 is she still well-regarded? i've read a lot of disdain towards her. ah well, she's a favorite.

loved:
Bellefleur
A Bloodsmoor Romance
Mysteries of Winterthurn
Them
Foxfire

mixed feelings:
Heat and Other Stories
Cybele
Black Water
Rape: A Love Story

loathed:
Zombie

as Rosamond Smith (mainly mixed feelings):
Starr Bright Will Be With You Soon
Nemesis
Soul/mate
You Can't Catch Me
Snake Eyes

79311 Floating Opera and Chimera, long ago. mixed feelings.

i have Giles Goat-Boy & Lost in the Funhouse on the bookshelf and have been eyeing them dubiously for years.
Truman Capote (9 new)

79311 ha! i feel him rolling over in his grave at the thought.
Colin Wilson (8 new)

79311 another obscure Colin. Lifeforce, an incredibly goofy 80s scifi-horror movie adaptation of one of his novels probably hasn't helped his rep much.

i've read:
The Outsider
The Mind Parasites
The Tower + the rest of the series
The Space Vampires (source of Lifeforce, sigh)
Rogue Messiahs: Tales of Self-Proclaimed Saviors
Colin MacInnes (2 new)

79311 sadly, probably rather obscure now. but one of my favorites.

i've read:
Absolute Beginners
City Of Spades
Mr. Love and Justice
All Day Saturday
June in Her Spring
Margaret Atwood (5 new)

79311 Blind Assassin is my favorite. so beautiful! and original. also loved Cat's Eye and The Robber Bride. mixed feelings about Handmaid's Tale.
Sep 18, 2012 05:51PM

79311 one of my favorites. The Earthsea Trilogy, of course. and Left Hand of Darkness. most recently The Dispossesed. still have to read Always Coming Home, which has been on the shelf for decades. i still have the cassette tape of musical accompaniment that the book came with. which is ironic because i no longer have a tapedeck.
Samuel R. Delany (13 new)

79311 Dhalgren is overdue for a re-read. i had trouble with it - but loved it nonetheless - many years ago.

since then i've read The Einstein Intersection (loved), Triton (mixed feelings), and Hogg (loathed).

fascinating author. next up for me will probably be Nova.
