I totally agree that when I was reading this book I was enjoying it without really knowing why. I probably won't read the other Larrson novels, but I am really glad I read this.

Great to hear Part 2 up today - I'm listening to it as I type this.

At least I thought so.

I agree but I do think there's something about the gloom of TGWTDT and the ennui / enervated hero of Roseanna that makes it feel noir somehow, at least to me.

Don't forget that Justin gave some advanced notice that John D Macdonald is the next featured book - A Flash of Green.

He's on my want tos, Paul. Exciting stuff.

Never heard of William Gay - looks interesting.

Okay so I hadn't quite realised the extent of Larrson's activism, and I guess you guys are right about the social justice slant to Nordic Noir.
I'm currently reading the first Martin Beck novel too, and there's a great line in that that:
"A murderer is a regular human being, only more unfortunate and maladjusted."

So episode 14 is up loads of great stuff about TGWTDT, and all the usual stuff. I'm listening right now. I'll post more when I've listened to it in full. What did you guys think?

Hi Still. Great to have you in the group. Sure you'll like the podcast.

I've just finished Wonder by RJ Pallacio. Not noir at all, but a pretty damned good piece of writing.

Here's a very booky clip:

Yeah - that's the one. It's stacked with tough guy lines!

Great stuff David - do have a listen!

Well the podcast will be out soon - looking forward to Kurt and Justin's views on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
I liked the way Blomquist was always reading novels by women crime writers. I think I lied it because it was the only thing that made me feel like the book was stylised at all.
Personally, I think Larsson's style has a bit of detail overload - but it was still bloody clever.

Hey Lawrence! It's great to have you in the group. I've got to be honest, with teaching and family and domesticity (an spreading myself thinly across social media!), I don't get to watch too much TV. But 'Black Spot' looks interesting.
I do LOVE, Bad Guys on Netflix. Totally cheesy. Not realistic. But just so damned cool!

Looking forward to the reviews, Kurt!

Well, I'm not sold on Matzberg, but you definitely have my admiration Christopher, if only for your niche obscurism.

Hi Christopher. I suggested this group to Justin and Kurt, and they thought it would be a great idea, so I set this up last night.
I figure that we'll talk about the upcoming featured novels, and maybe read some of the books that Justin and Kurt review on the the show.
David, you should have a listen, there's plenty of pulp classics in the backlist. Great to see you both, by the way. :)

What are you lovin' or a hatin' on film or TV right now?
