Kurt and Justin love 'In a Lonely Place'. I do too. Faascinating discussion on alcohol and flaws today.

I haven't got this one yet, but looking forward to it.

So, I finished Dodgers by Bill Beverly, and I've started The Axeman's Jazz - I'm having a really good reading year so far.

One of my favourite podcasts so far today. Loved the discussion about Linda Fairstein - hadn't heard about that. And the discussion brought the book right back to me. Yeah, what was with that weird guy in the car???
And I don't know about anyone else but I am SOLD on Mystic River.

Always thought Pop 1280 was a great title.

Okay, so I finished this last night. And it's five stars for me. That said, I did find the ending quite disappointing. It felt a bit like Dix just went, 'it's a fair cop, guv' and gave up. I think that the weakness of the ending stopped this from being a better novel than 'The Killer Inside Me' even though the quality of the writing was beyond anything I've read for quite some time.

I read the free sample of N&C and thought it was okay - but didn't have time to read it - hope to do so in 2019.

North and Central was that good!!!??? Wow.
In a Lonely Place - is almost certainly going to be in my best of 2019 - it's sooo good.

I totally agree Rob - and I am loving In a Lonely Place too.

Some of the observation of conflicted character is incredible, and reminds me of George Gissing (who I love).

Eurgh - green ice sounds icky!
Plus have never read any Parker - should probably fix that.

I loved the Winslow too.

Hi guys. Thought it would be fun to post our top five books read in 2018.
So to get the ball rolling, here are mine:
1 Roseanna - Maj Sjöwall, Per Wahlöö
2 Queenpin - Megan Abbott
3 The Killer Inside Me - Jim Thompson
4 Righteous - Joe Ide
5 The Talented Mr. Ripley - Patricia Highsmith

I'm at 26% and, while not o lot has happened apart from the murder (obvs), I am really enjoying it. The murderer pov is reminding me of Jim Thompson 'The killer inside me' . I look forward to reading more when I'll get a better view of the overall themes.
p.s. How cool is Dix's chat up line to the red head!
Also does no one else think - jeez Dot, how I'm I supposed to take this guy seriously. He's called Dix Steele ffs.

Wasn't Oswald Mosely the leader of the UK fascist party?! Bugger. Soz Walt. Soz Jus.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oswald_...So was this the guy you saw?

Goddamnit! That's what you get when you are slapdash by nature.

I came to episode 16 of Point Blank podcast looking to buy a new mattress and all I got was this damned ideological and cultural enrichment.
So today we had some films and novels that almost hit the mark. And some fascinating stuff about almost meeting a man who almost coulda been Oswald Mosely in an Alberkirky (realised I have NO IDEA how to spell that half way through!) liquor store.
And there's loads of cool stuff about Oswald Mosely and about the future of the podcast - which sounds pretty damned exciting to me.

Love that, Jay. Brub and his wife are a bit sort of smug at the start, aren't they?

Started this last night, and the opening is really great. The description of setting, while not specific is frankly, brilliantly written. Pacy and poetic all at once.

I think it might be a bit too worthy for me.
